Two variants of the Mi 6 will house Qualcomm’s latest 835 chipset that offers support for dual-camera module.

Xiaomi’s next ‘surprise product,’ Mi 6 is yet to officially launch, but there have been enough leaks and speculations about the anticipated smartphone which leaves little to imagination. If latest rumors are to be believed, the Mi 6 will come in three variants based on the chipsets used. The use of different chipsets indicates that some specifications and price of the models will also vary. Successor to the Mi 5, the upcoming smartphone is expected to be announced in March, with some reports suggesting that it will be showcased at MWC 2017 next month.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 will come in three variants using chipsets from MediaTek and Qualcomm. The different chipsets will also take the prices up to RMB 2,999 for the most premium model. According to a Weibo user, one variant of the Mi 6 will house a Helio X30 chipset and cost RMB 1,999 (approximately Rs 19,800 ), the second variant will be powered by the newer Snapdragon 835 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It is said to be priced at RMB 2,499 (approximately Rs 24,800). The most expensive edition will also have the same Snapdragon 835 chipset at its heart, but will vary in design as it will feature a dual-edge curved display similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. It will further include 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This particular variant will be priced at RMB 2,999 (approximately Rs 29,600).

In terms of design, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to feature a dual-tone design with a metal back. It is further expected to come with a physical home button, which will double up as a fingerprint sensor. Coming to the names of these variants, those housing Qualcomm’s latest chipset will be dubbed as Xiaomi Mi 6 and the Xiaomi Mi 6 Pro. While the Mi 6 will come with an LCD display, the Pro version will have a curved OLED display (something which even Apple is reportedly considering to introduce with its iPhone 8). As per the latest leaks, there is no indication if the budget version will carry a different name. This is in contradiction to earlier reports which indicated that the Mi 6 will come in three variants, named Mi 6S (Snapdragon-powered), Mi 6E (MediaTek Helio/ Exynos-powered), and Mi 6P (Xiaomi’s rumored Pinecone SoC).

On the photography front, the Mi 6 is expected to house a dual-camera setup. This is possible given the use of Qualcomm’s latest chipset that offers support for such camera capabilities. There have been reports, which suggest that the smartphone could house a 16-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities and dual-tone LED flash. For selfies, it is expected to come with a 4-megapixel selfie camera. Although there is no clarity on whether the dual-camera module will be available on both the Mi 6 and Mi 6 Pro version but it makes more sense to place it on the high-end version. ALSO READ: Mi 6 price, launch date hinted at by Xiaomi VP; here’s everything we know so far

The Mi 6 will run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat with Xiaomi’s own MIUI OS layered atop. The smartphone is further expected to draw its juice from a 3,000mAh battery with a Type-C port for connectivity.
