Sony Xperia XA 2017-leaked

The smartphone is shown off in a matte black finish.

At the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017, Sonyis expected to unveil up to five new Xperia smartphones. By far, there have been leaks and rumors about the upcoming smartphones but now thanks to a YouTuber, video of a prototype model of what looks like the Sony Xperia XA (2017) has surfaced online. The video shows off the device bearing the model number G3121 and also reveals some of the specs, including a 23-megapixel camera.

Although it is unclear if the model number G3121 will be the same smartphone which will be unveiled in the coming weeks, but the video is in line with previous leaks surrounding the purported Xperia XA (2017). In terms of design, the video shows off the smartphone with a slim form factor albeit having wider top and bottom bezels on the front. The side bezels, however, remain very narrow. The physical power button, volume controllers and camera shutter are placed on the right of the smartphone while the left side has a SIM slot.

The video further goes on to reveal some of the specifications of the smartphone. It is shown running Android 7.0 Nougat with a security patch level dated January 5, 2017, which suggests that the software update is fairly recent. In the video, the camera prowess of the smartphone is also showcased. There is a Manual, Auto, and Video mode. The camera is capable of video recording in full HD @30fps. Other options include HDR video, auto-capturing (video), and object tracking. ALSO READ: Sony Xperia XA successor leaked photos reveal USB Type-C port, no fingerprint sensor

The color black has become the new favorite in smartphones following the launch of iPhone 7. The speculated Sony Xperia XA (2017) smartphone as showcased in the prototype video also seems to be using a matte black finish giving it a very smooth appearance. Sony has previously used the color for its Xperia XZ and other Xperia X series devices which were launched last year.

If we take into consideration earlier rumors about what could be successor to the Sony Xperia XA, the smartphone is expected to come with USB Type-C connectivity but retains the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Renders of the purported smartphone were recently leaked online. Based on the renders, the successor to the Xperia XA is expected to feature a 5-inch display and with thinner bezels. However, the latest video appears to contradict the theory about bezels. ALSO READ: Sony to launch 5 smartphones at MWC 2017, including flagship with 4K display, Snapdragon 835 SoC

For photography, it comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel front camera.
