A benchmark listing could be seen as an indication that a launch maybe near.

Asus was widely expected to unveil the Zenfone 4 during CES last month, but the company took the wraps off the Zenfone AR and the Zenfone Zoom instead. But reports state that the flagship smartphone may yet be launched sometime in May. Now, the smartphone has been spotted on a benchmark website, which reveals its key specifications and features.

As per the GFXBench listing, spotted by The Android Soul, the Asus Zenfone 4 is expected to come with a 5.7-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) display. Under the hood seems to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is surprising considering this year’s flagship devices are powered by no less than a Snapdragon 835 chipset. The smartphone is also expected to feature 6GB of RAM, and 64GB onboard storage. The listing also reveals that the Zenfone 4 is likely to feature a 21-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel selfie camera, and it will run on Android Nougat out-of-the-box.

As is Asus’ tradition, the company is again likely to launch multiple variants of the Zenfone 4 with similar names. What makes it all the more confusing is that Asus has already launched a Zenfone 4 way back in 2014. That smartphone however came with a 4-inch display and an unassuming set of specifications and features. It remains to be seen how the company names its upcoming flagship smartphone, and more importantly when exactly it plans to launch it.

In the meanwhile though, Asus today launched the Zenfone 3S Max smartphone in India. The smartphone, priced at Rs 14,999, boasts a massive 5,000mAh battery. It also comes with features like 5.2-inch HD (720p) display, MediaTek’s 64-bit MT6750 octa-core SoC, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB onboard storage. The smartphone also features a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF support, 8-megapixel selfie camera, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots (hybrid setup), and 4G with VoLTE support. The Zenfone 3S Max has gone on sale in India, and in its price range it has to compete against the likes of the Lenovo P2 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 among others.
