N-series was quite a popular Nokia mobile phone range during the company’s heyday.

It looks like along with re-entering the mobile phone market, Nokia is also aiming to revive its once-successful series of devices, albeit only in terms of the moniker. The company has reportedly filed a trademark for ‘Nseries’ in China. The documents spotted on the Chinese State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) website, suggest that the company is trying to trademark ‘N Series,’ ‘Nseries,’ and all other variations of the terms.

The filing has been made by Nokia’s parent company HMD Global. To recall, the Nokia N-series was one of the most popular mobile phone series coming from the Finnish company back in the early 2000’s. The series included the N70, N90 and N91. These phones were popular for one of the longest period owing to their multimedia capabilities and modern design.

The original Nokia Nseries phones ran Symbian, Maemo, and MeeGo OS. Although there is no detail about what the new Nseries of ‘smartphones’ will include, given Nokia’s adoption of the Android platform, we could expect the upcoming phones to run on Google’s OS as well, Android Headlines reports.

It is worth mentioning that the trademark filing has been done in China suggesting that similar to the Nokia 6, the upcoming Nseries too could be limited to the country. When HMD Global announced the Nokia 6, it also laid forth its plans to launch more such Android-powered smartphones in the coming months. With Mobile World Congress, 2017 right around the corner, we might be able to hear a thing or two about the purported Nseries. The Nokia 6 smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat, and it also comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front snapper, and a 3,000mAh battery. The Nokia 6 is exclusive to China and has been priced at RMB 1,699 (approximately Rs 16,750).
