Xiaomi Mi Max 2 with 6GB of RAM, 5,000mAh battery to launch in May: Report

The Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is rumored to retain the gigantic 6.44-inch display.


Xiaomi’s giant phablet Mi Max will reportedly get a new successor soon. Xiaomi had launched the 6.44-inch phablet in China in May last year which followed a launch in India a month later. The Xiaomi Mi Max starts from Rs 14,999 for the base 32GB internal storage, 3GB of RAM and Snapdragon 650 processor and goes up to Rs 19,999 for the top-of-the-line 128GB internal storage, 4GB of RAM and Snapdragon 652 processor. The top end variant is also known as Mi Max Prime. The latest report suggests that Xiaomi is working on the successor, dubbed as Mi Max 2, and is likely to launch by May 2017.

The report comes from a post on Weibo, spotted by AndroidPure, and also reveals the key specifications of the alleged Mi Max 2. According to the report, the Mi Max 2 phablet will retain the 6.44-inch display. At the core of the phablet, it will run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset. The Mi Max 2 will come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Details on the option of expandable storage are not known at the moment.

For power, the Mi Max 2 is said to use a 5,000mAh battery along with support for fast charge. Rest of the details like camera, connectivity, and software hasn’t been disclosed yet. Regarding the OS however, we can assume that the Mi Max 2 would run on Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9. Considering this to be the first report on a possible successor to the Mi Max phablet, it is advised that this information be taken with a grain of salt.

Speaking about the gigantic phablet in question, the 6.44-inch display on the Mi Max has a full HD (1080p) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. The storage on the Mi Max can further be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Both the Snapdragon 652 and 650 chipsets on the Mi Max phablet come with Qualcomm’s Adreno 510 GPU. In the photography department, the Mi Max sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 along with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. Up front, the phablet houses a 5-megpaixel camera with beautify 85-degrees wide-angle selfie camera for photos and video calling. The Mi Max is powered by a 4,850mAh battery, which the company says is decent enough to offer full day talktime and also lasts 20 percent more than the Redmi Note 3. The phablet is also equipped with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge support to quickly charge the device. In terms of connectivity, the Mi Max comes with dual-SIM support (Hybrid SIM slot), 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and Bluetooth. On the software front, the Mi Max runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8.
