LG G6 camera UI, square capture mode detailed in new teaser; here’s everything we know so far

Here’s how LG is putting the 5.7-inch display in the G6 to proper use.


MWC 2017 is just around the corner and several companies have already lined up major announcements at the conference. LG’s G6 is one of the highly anticipated smartphones that is going to launch at the conference. While a number of leaks have revealed a lot of details about the G6, LG has also been teasing the smartphone over the past few weeks. The latest teaser by LG sheds more light on the much talked about new camera UI that has a unique square capture mode.

Posted on LG’s official YouTube page, the teaser video hypes the 2:1 screen aspect ratio by showing two square pictures side by side. The teaser video shows how the new UI will work. What the camera UI has done with the square mode is that, when you open your camera app, you will notice two squares present. The top square will act as your normal camera screen while the square at the bottom will become your image preview screen. On clicking a photo, the preview of the image will show up at the bottom. Previously, the company teased the dual-camera placed at the back side of the phone.

Design wise, the LG G6 is is expected to skip the home button on the front, just like its predecessor. The display will likely have very slim side bezels. The smartphone is also said to sport a brushed metal finish and a glass metal body. Another interesting change, that the rumors suggest will be seen is that the LG logo will be placed below the display. Coming to the rear end, the LG G6 will house the expected dual camera lens on the top center with the fingerprint sensor embedded below it.

LG G6 specifications and features

From what we know so far, the LG G6 will come with a 5.7-inch QHD+ (2880×1440 pixels) “FullVision” display. Under the hood, the LG G6 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage.

The smartphone will sport a combination of two 13-megapixel cameras. According to LG, one of the two rear cameras will have a 125-degree wide-angle lens, which is said to be close to what a human eye can see thus allowing one to shoot almost what they see in a given field of view. Up front, the LG G6 will boast a 12-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling.

The smartphone is expected to be armed by a 3,200mAh battery which is expected to last about 12 hours on standard use. On the software front, the LG G6 is expected to run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with UX 6.0 layered above. ALSO READ: MWC 2017: From LG G6 to Nokia 3310, launches to expect

The UX 6.0 is said to bring new changes in the UI of the phone. While the UX 6.0 is said to enhance the display and camera for the smartphone, it is also said to come with an ‘Advanced Multi-tasking’ feature. It will also allow users to make a custom collage wallpaper for the lock screen using multiple square photographs. Another interesting change will be in the calendar app. If the smartphone is turned horizontal, the calendar will appear in the left window, and a detailed schedule will appear on the right.

While the pricing details of the LG G6 are still not confirmed but reports suggest that LG will price the G6 about 20 percent lower than the G5. However, on the contrary, another report suggests that LG is expected to price the G6 around the same as the G5, which will then be around $500 (approximately Rs 34,000) to $600 (approximately Rs 40,000).

While the LG G6 will be officially unveiled on February 26, the smartphone is said to go on sale as early asMarch 9. It is also reported that the smartphone will be available in the US on April 7.
