Google has clarified that the issue has nothing to do with security threats or phishing attacks.
Earlier today, some users reported about receiving Google account notification where action was required. The problem seems widespread across Google Wi-Fi, Chromecast, Google Home, and Gmail accounts – smartphones, tablets and PC. At such times, the very first thing that comes to our mind is whether someone is trying to hack into our account. Thankfully, that’s not the case, and Google has confirmed saying there is no need to panic.
Soon after the incident happened, a lot of users on Twitter started to panic tweeting about the issue. There is also a thread on Reddit where a number of users have reported about the same issue. A couple of my colleagues did face the issue, but luckily I haven’t come across it, yet.
Google was quick enough to acknowledge the issue. On Gmail help forum, Google’s Crystal Lee said. “We’ve gotten reports about some users being signed out of their accounts unexpectedly. We’re investigating, but not to worry: there is no indication that this is connected to any phishing or account security threats.” ALSO READ: Google Prompt makes 2-factor authentication easier, here’s how to enable it
The statement comes as a relief as there wasn’t any suspicious activity going around, but it was result of some glitches in the system and Google is investigating the same. However, if you are one of those unlucky ones affected, you can follow Google’s advice to login from your PC, smartphone or tablet. ALSO READ: Google, Oreo partner to build space dunk game
On the Gmail forum, Lee further mentioned that you sign-in to your Google account by heading over to accounts.google.com. In case you forgot your password, you can head over to g.co/recover to recover your password. She further mentioned that the issue may cause delay in sending SMS code for those who have enabled 2-Step Verification. In such as situation, Google advises to use backup codes or try logging in again after sometime. ALSO READ: How to create lists of your favorite places on Google Maps and share with your friends
