The Gionee A1 was first unveiled at MWC 2017 alongside the A1 Plus.
After unveiling it at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC), Gionee will be bringing its A1 smartphone to the Indian market. The company has put out a banner on its India website teasing the Gionee A1, but it does not mention the date of the launch. The smartphone, when showcased at MWC 2017 was accompanied by a larger Plus variant.
The smartphone is from Gionee’s new line of A series and focuses on battery and selfie camera. To recall, here are the specifications and features of the Gionee A1 in details.
Gionee A1 specifications and features
The Gionee A1 boasts a 5.5-inch full HD display and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of internal storage which is further expandable via microSD card.

Fuelling the smartphone is a 4,010mAh battery which comes with fast charging support. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and USB OTG. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Gionee’s own Amigo OS layered above.
At MWC, Gionee had also announced the larger variant of A1. The Gionee A1 Plus is scheduled to hit the market starting April. As of now, it is unclear if the Indian debut of the smartphone will also mark the launch of Plus variant in the country.

The Gionee A1 Plus comes with a 6-inch full HD display. At its heart, MediaTek Helio P25 processor is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There is support for storage expansion up to 256GB via microSD card.
For selfies, the Gionee A1 Plus comes with a 20-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture and a Bokeh-selfie mode. It further includes a dual rear camera module that consists of a pair of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras.
The smartphone features a larger 4,550mAh battery and comes with ultra-fast charging support. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB OTG. On the software front, the Gionee A1 Plus smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat wrapped under Amigo OS.
Gionee A1, A1 Plus pricing
The Gionee A1 was launched at a price of 349 Euros (Rs 24,500 approximately) while the A1 Plus carried a price tag of 449 Euros (Rs 31,500 approximately). If the official Indian prices fall into the same bracket then the smartphone will face stiff competition from the likes of the recently launched Galaxy A series, which include the Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 (2017 edition) and offer 3D glass and metal design. In the sub-Rs 30K category, OnePlus 3T – a tested performer — also stands as a strong rival.
