Snapchat’s new feature makes it easier and quicker to chat with your friends.

Snapchat had recently updated its app with a major redesign making it easier to use and bringing in a host of new features as well. Snapchat now has added a new feature which essentially adds a shortcut of your chats in the form of the Bitmoji widget. This feature will allow Snapchat users on iOS and Android to chat with their friends without having to open the app altogether.

This feature will be accessible on the Today screen for iOS devices. Android users can add the Bitmoji widget anywhere on their Home screen. To use this feature on iOS, swipe right from the home screen which will take you to the Today screen. Scroll down and tap on edit to add the Bitmoji widgets. This will however work only for “Best Friends” on Snapchat and who have a Bitmoji avatar, obviously. “Best Friends” on Snapchat are those users with whom you communicate frequently. After doing so, tapping on the Bitmoji widget will open up the chat.

Android users can use follow the required steps of adding widgets on their particular smartphones. There will be an option to add Bitmoji widgets of either your Snapchat “Best Friends” or any other user who has a Bitmoji avatar. Bitmoji basically lets you make an emoji avatar of yourself by choosing how you look among different options for eyes, hair, skin color, shape and clothes as well. One will need to download the Bitmoji app and login to use it on the Snapchat app. Bitmoji can be sent in chats on Snapchat and can be used as stickers on snaps as well. Snapchat had bought Bitstrips, the parent company of Bitmoji last year for a reported amount of $100.

This feature follows Snapchat’s recent major update which changed the look of the app altogether. The new update brought in features like universal search which is visible on all the chats screen, camera screen and the Stories screen as well. It also added shortcuts to frequent chats and quick add as well within the three aforementioned screens of Snapchat.

This feature comes at a time when Snapchat’s unique features are being ripped off mercilessly by Facebook. Facebook began copying Snapchat blatantly last year when it introduced Stories feature for Instagram. This led to the recent update on WhatsApp status which was converted into a Stories type feature. Facebook continued this trend of using Snapchat’s disappearing images and video feature on its Messenger platform. This feature was rolled out as My Day and is available on Messenger. The built-in camera on the Messenger app now lets users set images and videos as their Stories.
