It's official, the iPhone 7 Plus boasts 3GB of RAM. Benchmark tests also prove that it is among the fastest iOS devices created by Apple till date.
Unlike its Android counterparts, Apple doesn’t really worry a lot about the specs war. That is the reason why it seldom reveals the amount of RAM or for that matter the batter capacity during its product launches. But if like us, you too are wondering how much RAM there is on the new iPhone 7 Plus, you are in luck. A benchmark test shows that Apple’s new iPhone comes with 3GB of RAM, the most on any iPhone till date.
The 3GB RAM on the iPhone 7 Plus is in line with previous rumors, and is 1GB more than what was available on the iPhone 6s Plus. It may be just shy of the 4GB RAM on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but the benchmark results prove that the iPhone 7 Plus is the fastest iOS device sold by Apple. As per the tests, the iPhone 7 Plus scores 3,233 in single-core tests and 5,363 in multi-core tests. To put this into perspective, last year’s iPhone 6s Plus scored 2,508 and 4,106 respectively. Even the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with the A9X processor scores 3,010 in single-core performance, and 4,910 in multi-core tests.
Besides 3GB of RAM, much of this impressive performance is down to the iPhone 7 Plus‘ new A10 Fusion 64-bit quad-core processor. During the keynote, Apple’s Phil Schiller revealed how the processor includes two high-performance cores that run 40 percent faster than the A9, and two high-efficiency cores that run at half the power to ensure longer battery life. Assisting the A10 SoC is a new performance controller that ensures the correct processors are running for maximum performance. At the same time, it also ensures that slower cores take over lighter apps, which will end up boosting the device’s battery efficiency.
It’s not surprising to see Apple giving its iPhone a spec boost, especially since one of the talking points of the iPhone 7 Plus is its dual-camera setup. The smartphone features a pair of 12-megapixel cameras — one is a 28mm wide-angle lens, and the other is a 56mm telephoto lens. Additionally, the camera also comes with a quad-LED True Tone flash and supports a wider f/1.8 aperture, and optical image stabilization (OIS). Both the cameras work together to click good photos even when zoomed in. With support for RAW image and 4K video recording, Apple has also bumped up the storage, and the base variant now comes with 32GB storage. It is accompanied by 128GB and 256GB variants.
