Here’s everything you need to know about Panasonic’s latest Euga Ray Max and Eluga Ray X smartphones.

Panasonic has added two new smartphones to its Eluga series, called Eluga Ray Max and the Eluga Ray X. The USP of these two new smartphones is a built-in smart assistant, which is a first for the company. Dubbed Arbo, it monitors a user’s usage and offers assistant based on it. The Panasonic Eluga Ray X is priced at Rs 8,999, while the Eluga Ray Max is priced at Rs 11,499 for the 32GB variant, and Rs 12,499 for the 64GB variant. Both smartphones will be exclusively available on Flipkart.

Both new Panasonic smartphones boast metal unibody design, but the talking point is still Arbo. According to the company, Arbo is derived from Esperanto and it means ‘a framework that supports climbing plants’. The virtual assistant monitors usage behavior, and with its location identification feature it “recognizes the places often visited by the user and sends out prompt responses asking them to make changes to their phone settings.” The company further says that the AI powered assistant “takes care of all daily tasks and activities like calls and messages that need to be framed and sent out on a regular basis.”

Panasonic Eluga Ray X specifications, features

As far as specifications are concerned, the Panasonic Eluga Ray X flaunts a 5.5-inch HD (720p) display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood is a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6737 64-bit quad-core processor paired with Mali-T720 GPU and 3GB RAM. There is 32GB storage on offer, which can be expanded using a microSD card.

For photography, the smartphone is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera along with a LED flash. For selfies, there’s a 5-megapixel camera up front along with a front-facing LED flash. Other features on the smartphone include a fingerprint sensor, 4,000mAh battery, and connectivity options like 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow.

Panasonic Eluga Ray Max specifications, features

The Panasonic Eluga Ray Max, on the other hand, flaunts a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display with 2.5D curved glass, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 64-bit octa-core chipset paired with Adreno 505 GPU and 4GB of RAM. There are two storage options — 32GB and 64GB — and both can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

For photography, the smartphone is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel camera up front, along with a LED flash. Other features include a fingerprint sensor, a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and USB OTG. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow.

Panasonic’s new Eluga Ray X and Eluga Ray Max have been launched in a crowded segment, where most of the smartphones look the same and have pretty much the same set of specifications. With Arbo smart assistant on board though, these new smartphones no doubt have a differentiating factor that will help it stand out in a crowded segment. That said, the list of specifications do not really seem to be that tempting. It remains to be seen if Arbo alone is able to sway buyers’ decisions. Until then, both Panasonic smartphones will face tough competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo Z2 Plus, and the Moto G5 Plus to name a few.
