The OnePlus 5 could be launched in the second half of 2017.

As is the norm, OnePlus will no doubt launch a new flagship device this year, reportedly called OnePlus 5. The number 4 is presumed to be skipped by OnePlus as it is considered unlucky in Chinese culture and is synonymous with the word ‘death’ or ‘decease’. The latest buzz on the OnePlus 5 is that the smartphone could come with a staggering 8GB of RAM. Considering the fact that the OnePlus 3 emerged as one of the first smartphones to come with 6GB of RAM, this rumor may turn out to be true after all. The OnePlus 5 is expected to arrive around the second half of 2017.

According to a Chinese publication PCPop (spotted by TechTimes), the OnePlus 5 with 8GB of RAM will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. This would place the OnePlus 5 against the current reigning flagship Samsung Galaxy S8. In terms of design, the OnePlus 5 is said to feature a sleek design with thinner bezels, thereby following the trend of this year’s flagships. OnePlus 5 will also come with improved display, and improved photographic chops. Some rumors suggest that the smartphone could boast a dual-camera setup with the sensors placed vertically. OnePlus is rumored to price the OnePlus 5 a little under $500 (Rs 32,300). The OnePlus 3T is currently priced at Rs 29,999.

Besides these, there aren’t many details available on the OnePlus 5. There have however been reports suggesting that the OnePlus 5 will feature a dual-curved edge display like the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. The OnePlus 5 was earlier rumored to feature a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. In addition to the 8GB RAM, the OnePlus 5 is also expected to come with 6GB RAM and storage variants of 64GB and 128GB. The storage would be further expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card.  ALSO READ: OnePlus 3 review: A ‘flagship killer’ that really kills other flagships

OnePlus is also expected to ditch the aluminum body, and opt for a ceramic body like the Xiaomi Mi MIX, for its upcoming flagship device. For power, the OnePlus 5 is expected to use a 4,000mAh battery and the smartphone would be equipped with the company’s Dash Charge technology. The OnePlus 5 is said to feature a USB Type-C port for connectivity and could come with wireless charging technology. On the software front, the OnePlus 5 would run on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with OxygenOS running on top.
