Samsung responded saying that the issue can be adjusted with the phone itself.
Samsung went through its toughest year in 2016 with the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. All fingers were crossed for the company’s latest smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. Samsung had launched the Galaxy S8 series on March 29 and pre-orders began on April 7 in South Korea. The ghost of the Galaxy Note 7 seems to be still following Samsung as users in its home country have begun complaining about the flagships. Over the past few days, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users have posted complaints on online communities regarding a reddish tint appearing on the displays, Korean Herald reports.
The Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ users even tried adjusting the color display settings but the reddish tint remained. The report quotes an industry expert as saying, “The reddish tint may be caused by a color balance problem after Samsung used deep red AMOLED to strengthen the red.” The report states that the OLED panel on the Galaxy S8 series uses two subpixels which are red-blue and blue-green. The presence of two greens can cause a risk for having a color balance problem. It is also suggested that Since Samsung developed deep red OLEDs, it is suspected to have caused the reddish tint in the Galaxy S8 smartphones. It is suggested that Samsung took this hasty decision to mass produce the flagships and it failed to properly adjust the color balance.
Samsung’s reply to this complaint reads, “It is not a quality problem and it can be adjusted with the phone itself. If the color still appears to be reddish, customers can change it at the service center.” However, some users responded to this by saying that they couldn’t adjust the color since the display panel was already optimized. This complaint coincides with Samsung’s celebration today as it recorded the highest ever pre-order sales for a smartphone in South Korea. Samsung crossed the 1 million mark for pre-order sales of the Galaxy S8 series. The smartphones will officially launch on April 21. Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ specifications
In terms of specifications, the Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch display with pixel density of 570ppi, while the Galaxy S8+ comes in a 6.2-inch display with 529ppi pixel density. Both the displays flaunt Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology, QHD resolution Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection and also an unusual aspect ratio of 18:5:9. The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ both come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. In the photography department, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ both sport a 12-megapixel dual-pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS), electronic image stabilization (EIS), phase detection and auto-focus. For power, the Galaxy S8 uses a 3,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8+ uses a bigger 3,500mAh battery. The connectivity options available on the Galaxy S8 smartphones are dual-SIM support, 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi and USB Type-C port. The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint sensor, which is placed on the back panel just beside the rear camera lens. On the software front, the Galaxy S8 series runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. Additional features on the Galaxy S8 series include Always On Display, IP68 water and dust resistance, and Samsung’s first AI-based assistant Bixby.
