Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 launched

The Galaxy J3 (2017) is currently on sale via AT&T carrier in the US.

Samsung has been extensively rumored to upgrade its Galaxy J series this year. The entire lineup including the Galaxy J3 (2017), the Galaxy J5 (2017) and the Galaxy J7 (2017) are expected to launch this year soon. Amongst the three, the Galaxy J3 (2017)  is now available for sale via AT&T carrier in the US for a price of $179.99, which rounds off to Rs 11,600 approximately.

The 2017 iteration of the Galaxy J3 bears close resemblance to its 2016 predecessor. There are however two noticeable changes on the rear end of the Galaxy J3 (2017). Firstly, the shape of the camera lens is circular and the LED flash is placed on the right side. There is a grey band running along the camera lens till the sides of the smartphone. The AT&T logo is visible on the center of the smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) specifications

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy J3 (2017) features a 5-inch HD display. Under the hood of the smartphone is Samsung’s Exynos 7570 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The smartphone comes with 1.5GB of RAM, and internal storage of 16GB which is expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. In the photography department, the Galaxy J3 (2017) sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 4x digital zoom, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with Gesture Control and Beauty Effect in Selfie mode.

The smartphone is fuelled by a 2,600mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box. The connectivity options available on the Galaxy J3 (2017) include single SIM support (nano SIM), 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Bluetooth v4.2.

In comparison to its predecessor, the Galaxy J3 (2017) comes with a few improvements like double storage, and upgraded OS (Android 7.0 Nougat). The cameras have surprisingly been downgraded to 5-megapixel and 2-megapixel from the existing 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing sensors on the Galaxy J3 (2016). The battery, RAM size and the display quality remains the same with no changes. ALSO READ: Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 with S bike mode: Hands-on and first impressions

Since the AT&T variant of the Galaxy J3 (2017) is exclusive to the US, the comparisons could change later. The global variant of the Galaxy J3 (2017) would presumably come with slight differences in terms of specifications and design as well. Samsung has quietly launched this smartphone in the US, and there is no word on its global launch as yet. ALSO READ: Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) detailed spec sheet leaked on GFXBench
