This will be the first major update to Google Feed once rolled out.
Google seems to be revamping the way Google Now or Google Feed looks on smartphones and if the latest leak is to be believed, users will soon be able to see a brand new transparent interface. The design completely changes the way the present Feed looks. Apart from a new UI, there will also be some changes to the way users interact with programs and perform functions. There have been previous leaks with a similar design so it could be the testing phase for Google.
The latest change and leak was reported by a Reddit user who found the new changed version on restarting the device. The transparent UI appeared on the Google Pixel device and there was no notification or memo before the change was auto-implemented. The random happening confirms that the new UI could be in testing phase and rolled out to random users before Google makes an official announcement regarding the latest development. This will be the first major design change to Google Now since its inception.
The images shared show the new display in a tinted, transparent form which easily shows the phone wallpaper. The bottom keys too come in a new transparent panel. Currently, launching Google Feed shows a completely white, non-transparent layout. The new transparent version feels more aesthetically pleasing and also easier on the eyes. Along with the change, there is also a tabbed interface and newer icons on the top panel to showcase features and three prominent tabs: Feed, Upcoming and Search. There are also shortcuts to access the full Google app. ALSO READ: Mozilla Firefox takes on Chrome with new update; promises faster experience, lesser memory consumption
Google has gone on record and made an official statement to Android Police regarding the new version though nothing has been mentioned regarding the features or the expected time of launch. The statement made by Google regarding the discrepancy in the roll-out of the new version says, “The addition of Feed and Upcoming are now launched to a wide array of Android and iOS devices but is not currently available for a small subset of devices that have swipe access to the Feed from the homescreen. We look forward to sharing updates on this point soon.”
The Reddit user has received a positive response on the post with many people liking the new UI. The user mentions that the phone is not rooted and runs Android 7.1.2, Build N2G47O, May Security Patch. The changes mentioned by him highlight: the tabbed Google Now Page after tapping what looks like an inbox on the top right, swiping away cards only works after tapping the inbox button on the top right and pull tab (2nd image) lets you scroll through articles without moving back to the home screen. The app version on his device is Google App Version 7.3.25.21.arm64.
