OnePlus 5 front and back leaked ahead of official launch

OnePlus 5 is all set to be unveiled in India in a special event hosted at Mumbai.

OnePlus 5 was finally unveiled last night, and a day later, the flagship smartphone is set to arrive in India. OnePlus had revealed that the phone would come to India on June 22, and has even changed its strategy in announcing the Indian version. While so far, smartphone launches have been exclusive in nature, OnePlus changed that and will be announcing the phone with a whole lot of pomp and splendor.

A few weeks before the actual unveiling, OnePlus took to Twitter and Facebook to announce that fans would be able to be a part of the launch event and started sale for the tickets to the event. The OnePlus launch event will be held in Mumbai, at NSCI Dome and the price for the tickets was Rs 999. However, if you weren’t lucky enough to grab one of the tickets, here’s how you can still watch the event live. ALSO READ: Our first batch had just 1,000 phones: OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei

Thanks to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, you can directly stream the keynote from the comforts of your home. The keynote will be streamed live on the OnePlus India YouTube page at 2:00PM, and alternatively you can also watch the keynote in the video below. OnePlus 5 will be up for sale in the country on the same day, and it will be available exclusively on Amazon India from 4:30PM.

OnePlus 5 features, specifications

A quick look at the specifications, the phone comes with the Snapdragon 835 chipset. The phone comes with Android 7.1.1 out-of-the-box and Oxygen OS 4.5.0 on top. The phone is available internationally in two internal storage and RAM variants — 64GB/6GB variant and the 128GB/8GB variant. Both the variants are expected to come to India too. The device comes with a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display.  The phone comes with 3,300mAh battery and in terms of connectivity supports LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. ALSO READ: Watch OnePlus 5 go through brutal durability tests; OnePlus’ latest smartphone seems quite sturdy

OnePlus Carl Pei, in previous interviews, highlighted how the brand chose to focus on one element with the smartphone and that is the camera. The phone tries to replicate the success of the latest dual rear camera trend. However unlike other smartphone brands, OnePlus 5 does not experiment with the rear cameras. The first rear camera is a simple 16-megapixel shooter while the second is a 20-megapixel snapper with a telephoto lens. Both the cameras are Sony and the phone also supports 2X Optical Zoom using the second telephoto camera.

Coming to the pricing, OnePlus 5 finally breaks OnePlus tradition of being an “affordable flagship” and has crossed over into the premium segment. The phone is he most expensive OnePlus device to date. While the Indian prices continue to be under wraps, the international rates give an idea of what to expect from the OnePlus 5. The phone is priced at $479 (approximately Rs 31,000) for the base 64GB/6GB variant, and $499 (approximately Rs 32,300) for the more premium 128GB/8GB variant.
