
Here are the smartphones to look forward to in the month of August.
This year has seen the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, LG G6, and OnePlus 5 to name a few star smartphone launches. Since we’re in August already, we look forward to some interesting smartphones. A couple of these devices will launch in other markets to begin with. Here’s a look at six smartphones that are set to launch this month.
Lenovo K8 Note
Lenovo has sent media invites to revive its Note series by adding a new smartphone to the portfolio called, K8 Note. The event is scheduled for August 9 in New Delhi. Lenovo seems to be focusing on photography with its new smartphone. In the teaser put up on social media, it’s likely hinting at a dual camera setup. Besides, the camera is said to offer the popular Bokeh feature. Additionally, benchmarks reveal that the smartphone will come with 1.39GHz deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset and 3GB of RAM. It is said to run Android Nougat 7.1.1 OS out-of-the-box which is further said to be upgradable to Android O.
Nokia 8
Nokia 8, expected to be the flagship device from HMD Global and Nokia is set to launch globally on August 16. It is said to be the first Android smartphone from HMD Global to come with the dual-lens rear camera powered by Carl-Zeiss optics. Thanks to the leaks, there is hardly anything we don’t know about the smartphone, including the price. Reports online suggested that the smartphone could be priced at under $700 (approximately Rs 45,000).
At the anticipated Rs 45,000, the Nokia 8 is expected to have features like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Apart from that, the device is expected to get a 5.3-inch or 5.7-inch display running at full HD. Rumor suggests it will launch with a dual-rear camera setup. Other expected features include USB Type-C port, front-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box. Asus Zenfone 4
Asus Zenfone 4 has been popping up in the rumor mill for a very long. The company has finally sent out media invites for an event in the Philippines on August 19. While the teaser image confirmed that the event will witness the launch of Zenfone 4, it also hinted at a dual camera setup for the phone. The smartphone is expected to launch in two variants – one powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC, while the other by a Snapdragon 630 SoC. It is one of the six smartphones that the company plans to launch by the end of this year.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Samsung is holding an ‘Unpacked’ launch event in New York City on August 23 where it is widely expected to launch the Galaxy Note 8 smartphone. It will be the successor to last’ year Galaxy Note 7, which unfortunately was discontinued due to battery fiasco’s around the world. From what is known, the Galaxy Note 8 will retain the same 2:1 Infinity Display, which was introduced with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Under the hood, the smartphone is likely to be powered by Exynos 8895 chipset paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phone might sport a dual camera setup with a combination of 13-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor. The dual-rear camera setup is also said to come with optical image stabilization. Armed with a 3,300mAh battery, the smartphone will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
LG V30
LG will be announcing the V30 smartphone on August 31. The successor to last year’s V20, the phone is said to ditch the secondary display for notifications that came as a USP in LG V20. The smartphone is expected to come with flagship chipset, Snapdragon 835 SoC under the hood paired with 4GB of RAM. The device is said to flaunt a 6-inch 18:9 ratio AMOLED display. The display will be FullVision with 2K capabilities. The LG V30 will come with water and dirt resistance. It is said to run Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box, and it might also be one of the few smartphones that might receive Android O update. LG is said to be playing with the display technology, which will eventually replace the secondary display.
Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom
Asus was said to launch the Zenfone 3 Zoom and Zenfone AR together. While the Zenfone AR already launched at a priced tag of Rs 49,999, the Zenfone 3 Zoom is still awaiting its launch. While there is no tentative date for the launch, reports say that the device will be launched in India in the second half of August. As the name suggests, the smartphone’s main focus remains its cameras. It comes with a dual camera setup at the back, with both the cameras being of 12-megapixel resolution each. On the front, the device has a 13-megapixel selfie camera along with a Sony IMX214 sensor. The Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom comes with a 5.5-inch FullHD AMOLED display, it is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU, the phone has different storage and RAM variants – 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card.
