Xiaomi Mi A1: From dual cameras to Android One OS; here are the top 5 features

The Mi A1 is Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone.


As rumored, Xiaomi launched its “flagship dual camera” smartphone – the Mi A1 in India today. The smartphone is priced at Rs 14,999, and will be available online via Mi.com and Flipkart, and through offline channels including Mi Home stores, Mi Preferred stores, and retail partners. The first sale is scheduled to take place on September 12 at 12M. For its price range, the Mi A1 boasts impressive features and also introduces a lot of firsts for a Xiaomi smartphone in India. Android One

To begin with, the Mi A1 is Xiaomi’s first Android One smartphone. A Google initiative started in 2014, Android One smartphones run pure and stock Android with automatic OS upgrades, limited set of pre-loaded apps, and security. Android One smartphones also come with built-in Google services like Google Assistant, Google Play Protect, and unlimited storage on Google Photos. The Mi A1 will also receive Android Oreo update before the end of the year, and one of the first devices to get Android P next year.

Dual cameras

The Mi A1 is also the first Xiaomi smartphone to launch with dual cameras in India. The dual camera setup includes a pair of 12-megapixel sensors where one is a wide-angle lens and the other a telephoto lens. With this lens setup, the Mi A1 is capable of achieving DSLR-like bokeh effect. The dual cameras on the Mi A1 are enabled with up to 2x optical zoom, and up to 10x digital zoom. In addition to this, the Mi A1 cameras come with Beautify 3.0, and 1.25μm pixels. The Mi A1 has the same camera features as the recently launched Mi 5X. Design

The Mi A1 flaunts a sleek design measuring 7.3mm thin and rounded edges in three colors of black, gold and rose gold. However, the smartphone’s striking resemblance to the iPhone 7 Plus cannot be ignored. The similarities include the dual cameras placed on the top left corner and the antenna lines stretched on top and bottom. The rear panel further houses a fingerprint sensor with the Mi and Android One branding located down below. Up front, the Mi A1 has thick bezels on top and bottom with three capacitive touch buttons. Audio

The Mi A1 comes with some notable audio features such as a dedicated headphone amplifier with support for electrical resistance up to 600Ω. For its speakers, the Mi A1 also features a 10V power amplifier which is said to push deeper lows and higher volume. DHS Audio calibration, standalone audio amplifier. The Mi A1  is also equipped with DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm for an enhanced audio experience on headphones and speakers. Chipset and memory

In terms of memory, the Mi A1 packs 4G of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is further expandable via a microSD card. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.0GHz. Built on the 14nm FinFET technology, this chipset is proven to offer the right balance between power and efficiency.
