Now MyAirtel app users can make secure digital payments to online or offline merchants via UPI-integration.

Earlier this year, Airtel announced its Payments Bank service for digital payments. The company has now got UPI integration enabled on its digital payments platform. You can choose to make secure digital payments to online or offline merchants. Also, you will be able to make instant money transfers to any bank account in India linked to your BHIM account.

For UPI-based payments and transfers, Airtel Payments Bank users will no longer need to provide their bank details to enable transactions. Instead, you can create your own UPI ID, which is convenient to remember and also ensure security. In addition, customers can use the Payments Bank section from MyAirtel app and scan UPI QR codes to make payments to merchants. Online and offline merchants can now use Airtel Payments Bank as a payment mode to accept payments from customers. UPI is a government registered payments platform and is now accepted at various merchants both offline and online.

According to Airtel Payments Bank MD and CEO Sashi Arora, it would allow around 20 million bank customers to create personalized UPI handles via the MyAirtel app enabling them to carry out digital transactions. In order to make UPI payments from Airtel Payments Bank, here’s what you need to do. First off, ensure that you have the updated My Airtel App on your smartphone or tablet. If not, the head to respective Android or iOS app store – Google Play Store or App store. Search for MyAirtel app and click on update. Next, select UPI from the app’s ‘Bank’ section. Here, you will need to create a personalized account to carry out UPI transactions. For example – first name.surname@airtel. This account will need to be linked to your existing Airtel mobile number. This will get you a savings account with Airtel Payments Bank which can be used on BHIM or other UPI registered apps of other banks.
