OnePlus 5, 3, and 3T are confirmed by the Chinese smartphone maker to be getting Android 8.0 officially by the end of the year.
OnePlus community members have been eagerly waiting for the company to release the Android 8.0 upgrade for the OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T after it made the promise. The Chinese manufacturer had earlier confirmed that the three smartphones will receive an official Android Oreo update. Now, we have come across early proof of the company’s latest flagship smartphone running Android 8.0 Oreo.
The OnePlus 5 smartphone running a beta version of Android Oreo was first spotted in a benchmarking test by PhoneArena. The Geekbench spotting suggests that the OnePlus 5 smartphone might be close to officially receiving beta updates for the new OS. The Android Oreo Developer program has been ongoing, while Google started rolling out beta updates to Pixel and Nexus smartphones shortly after the I/O 2017 developer conference. Other smartphones too, have been getting unofficial Android Oreo updates from various sources.
As it appears, the OnePlus 5 smartphone with 6GB RAM spotted must have been enrolled in the beta program and is testing the new Oreo builds that OnePlus is said to have released. Android beta updates have so far only been available for OnePlus 3 and 3T. Either of the two smartphones, if enrolled in the beta program, can start testing the new Android Oreo builds. The company recently rolled out Oxygen OS 4.5 based on Android 7.1 Nougat for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. The latest upgrade comes with new features, battery improvements, and other bug fixes.
It is to note that developer previews and beta versions are often unstable and can make your device behave erratically. For the curious and early adopters, it is recommended that you install beta updates from verified sources. It is always wise to install an early version of the program on a secondary device. Having said that, as the company has confirmed earlier and with these early sketches of Android O coming to OnePlus smartphones, users can rest assured that they will be treated with Oxygen OS based on Android 8.0 upgrade. The Chinese manufacturer has maintained a good record in the past in terms of delivering quick and timely updates.
