Motorola skipped the Play variant this year with the Moto G5 series.

Lenovo-owned Motorola launched a slew of smartphones this year. Motorola upgraded its Moto Z, Moto X, Moto G, Moto E series and even introduced the budget Moto C series. With the Moto G series, Motorola skipped the Play variant this year. A new tip now suggests that Motorola will introduce it again next year with the Moto G6 Play, which will launch alongside the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus.

This is the first we’re hearing about the future Moto G6 series. Reliable leakster Evan Blass tweeted out this information saying that “next year will see the return of Play to Lenovo’s Moto G lineup in the form of the Moto G6 Play (alongside the G6 and G6 Plus)”. The Play variant is seen in Moto’s smartphone lineup including the Moto Z2 Play, Moto Z Play, and last year’s Moto G4 Play. The Play variant are essentially affordable versions of both the Moto Z and Moto G smartphones.

The Moto G4 Play was launched back in August 2016, and was last priced at Rs 7,999. This year took a slightly different turn as Motorola surprised us with the launch of a mid-cycle upgrade in the form of the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus. Successors to the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus, the smartphones come with upgrades over the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. The Moto G5S is priced at Rs 13,999, while the Moto G5S Plus retails at Rs 15,999.
