Nokia seems to be on track to make its comeback with Android-based D1C smartphone. Details of the smartphone leaked via benchmarking results.
Nokia is all set to make its highly anticipated comeback with Android-based smartphones and tablets, later this year. Earlier this week, we came across a mysterious Nokia D1C smartphone, which was spotted on Geekbench listing. The listing revealed some details about the upcoming smartphone. Now, someone also managed to run the smartphone on AnTuTu benchmarking app, revealing rest of its specifications and features.
Spotted by PlayfulDroid, the AnTuTu listing reveals Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor (MSM8937) clocked at 1.4GHz paired with Adreno 505 GPU and 3GB of RAM. While the screen size is unknown, the benchmark listing has revealed that the display will sport a full HD resolution (1080x1920pixels). With 32GB onboard storage, the smartphone could also feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. Running on Android 7.0 Nougat, connectivity options such as Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE are expected to be in tow. This is yet another tangible evidence of the upcoming Nokia smartphone.
Recently, we have also come across rumors pointed at two high-end Nokia smartphones sporting QHD displays – one with 5.2-inch and other with 5.5-inch screen. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC under the hood, 22.6-megapixel rear cameras with LED flash and support for 4K video recording, the prices of the smartphones could start at Rs 30,000. The Nokia D1C, it could be the third smartphone that Nokia is likely to offer. However, looking at the specifications of, it is expected to carry a less expensive, mid-range price tag. Nokia, once the pinnacle in the mobile phone sector, had a great run when it was at its peak. Right from basic black and white phones, to color screen and camera phones, Nokia had been a top player in several markets, including India. There are some interesting handsets made by Nokia, be it Nokia 3250 with the rotating keypad and powerful speaker inside, the gaming focused N-Gage and N-Gage QD, the N-Series smartphones running on Symbian OS, the iconic Nokia Communicator and more. It started falling off the cliff when Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS started gaining ground, whereas Nokia was trying its hands on Meego OS and later focused on Windows Phone under the leadership of Stephen Elop. Later, Microsoft acquired Nokia’s handset division in 2014 to focus on making Windows Phone smartphones. Despite its numerous efforts and smartphones with capable hardware, Microsoft couldn’t get Windows Phone flying as its competitors.
With the Microsoft-Nokia acquisition deal, the Finnish company wasn’t allowed to produce smartphones under Nokia branding until fourth quarter of 2016. Now that the given timeframe is about to end, Nokia recently signed a deal with HMD Global to manufacture its smartphones and tablets for the next 10 years. The deal is worth $350 million. Under the strategic agreement, HMD will give royalty payments to Nokia for the sales of Nokia-branded devices. The agreement also covers both brand and intellectual property rights. Over the next three years, HMD will also be pumping $500 for marketing Nokia-branded devices.
Loyal Nokia users always wanted the company to embrace Android OS, which did not happen. After the Microsoft acquisition, the company did release a couple of entry-level smartphones under Nokia X-series. These smartphones ran forked Android OS with Microsoft services pre-installed, such as Skype and OneDrive among others. However, due to lack of powerful hardware and timely software updates, the Nokia X-series didn’t get good traction.
Now, the D1C and other two rumored smartphones could be the turning point to revive Nokia brand. From the leaked specifications it does looks like Nokia isn’t leaving any stone unturned to make a grand comeback. In fact, if Nokia does manage to play its cards right, the new smartphones could just be the ones loyal fans always wanted.
