Xiaomi’s Mi Max Prime is powered by a faster Snapdragon 652 SoC and comes with 4GB of RAM. It is priced at Rs 19,999.

Back in July, Xiaomi launched its Mi Max smartphone with a 6.44-inch display. At the time of launch, the company had announced two variants – Mi Max powered by Snapdragon 650 hexa-core chipset and priced at Rs 14,999, and Mi Max Prime powered by Snapdragon 652 octa-core chipset, priced at Rs 19,999. While only the Mi Max had gone on sale, Xiaomi has now announced that the ‘Prime’ version will be available to purchase starting October 17. The company is gearing up to conduct ‘Diwali with Mi’ sale between October 17 and October 19, which is when the smartphone will be available to purchase from Mi.com/in.

The Mi Max phablet comes with a metal unibody design with a fingerprint scanner at the rear. It is incredibly thin with thickness of just 7.5mm and weighs 203 grams. While the weight is quite heavy for a smartphone, it feels perfectly balanced for a phablet like Mi Max. The power button and volume rocker is placed on the right, whereas the left edge has the SIM card tray. The front panel has earpiece and selfie camera, followed by the display and three capacitive touch buttons at the bottom for menu, home and back.

Xiaomi Mi Max Prime specifications

The Xiaomi phablet is equipped with a massive 6.44-inch full HD (1080p) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. At the heart of the phablet runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 SoC (four Cortex A53 cores and four Cortex A72 cores). It is the top end variant which comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Xiaomi has also included a microSD card slot for further expansion. ALSO READ: Xiaomi Mi Max Review: Gulliver in the land of Lilliputs

In the photography department, the Mi Max Prime is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0 along with dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. Up front is a 5-megpaixel selfie camera with beautify mode, 85-degrees wide-angle lens. To keep things ticking, the Mi Max is equipped with a 4,850mAh battery, which the company says is decent enough to offer full day talktime and lasts 20 percent more than the Redmi Note 3. While we reviewed the smartphone, we were able to get two days worth battery life with nearly 11 hours of screen on time.

However, we were having the Snapdragon 650 version, and battery life may be slightly different in the Snapdragon 652 variant. Xiaomi has also included support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge to quickly charge the smartphone from 0-to-60 percent in 30 minutes. On the connectivity front, Mi Max Prime features 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling support, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS and Bluetooth. The Mi Max Prime boots Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8. ALSO READ: Samsung Galaxy J Max vs Xiaomi Mi Max: Price, specifications, features compared

The Mi Max is targeted at users who want extra large displays and it does not really have much competition. There is the YU Yureka Note with 6-inch display for Rs 13,499 and Lenovo Phab Plus with a slightly larger 6.8-inch display for Rs 14,999. But hardware wise, they both aren’t as powerful as the Mi Max Prime.

Xiaomi, will also be putting other things on sale, including the Mi Air Purifier 2 for Rs 9,999 and a 10,000mAh Mi Power Bank Pro for Rs 1,999. One of the highlights of the power bank is USB Type-C connectivity with fast charging support. There is also Mi Band 2 for Rs 1,999 along with which Xiaomi is offering free USB LED light enhanced version, but the offer is only applicable on purchase using Xiaomi Store app. This USB light is usually priced at Rs 249. Apart from these, other Xiaomi products such as headphones, Mi Band, Bluetooth speaker, USB Fan, Mi 5, Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime, and Redmi Note 3 will also be put on sale.

What’s more, the company will also be conducting Re 1 flash sales. On October 17 at 2PM, 30 Redmi 3S Prime smartphones and 100 Mi Bluetooth speakers will be offered on flash sale for Re 1. On October 18, 30 Redmi Note 3 (16GB variant) and 100 20,000mAh power banks will be offered in Re 1 flash sale, whereas on October 19, 30 Mi 4 smartphones and 100 Mi Band 2 will be offered on Re 1 flash sales.
