Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, the company’s second-generation bezel-less smartphone, was launched in September and went on sale in India in October. The company has now introduced a special edition of the flagship smartphone along with the Black Ceramic version. Designed by Philippe Starck, the special edition version has ‘Starck’ embossed on its back. Xiaomi will start selling both the variants in China starting November 28.
The Mi MIX was launched last year as a concept, and this year the Mi MIX 2 boasts of an improved design and is seen as no less than a design marvel. Touted for showing what’s possible with the 18:9 aspect ratio, the second-gen Mi MIX 2 had been available in a White Ceramic special edition until now, in addition to the regular models.
The limited edition models evidently cost more than their regular counterparts. The Starck Edition Mi MIX 2 is priced at 4,999 CNY (Rs 49,000 approximately) while the Black Ceramic is priced at 4,699 (Rs 46,000 approximately). Both the phones will be available together in the coming week. The difference is in terms of RAM. The Starck Edition and Black Ceramic edition include 8GB of RAM. The base model is priced at Rs 35,999 in India and features 6GB of RAM.
In terms of specifications, both the Black Ceramic and the Starck Edition are similar to the regular models. There’s a 5.99-inch full HD+ (2160×1080 pixels) display with 403ppi pixel density. Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is clocked at 2.45GHz and paired with Adreno 540 GPU.
For optics, the smartphone features a 12-megapixel rear camera with IMX386 sensor, 4-axis OIS, f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, PDAF, and HDR. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel camera with the Beautify mode, 1080p video calling feature and a selfie countdown feature.
On the software front, the Mi MIX 2 runs on Android Nougat out-of-the-box with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 custom skin on top. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0, and 4G VoLTE support. There is also a fingerprint sensor with an 18K gold coated rim. It is fueled by a 3,400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
