Xiaomi has long been rumored to launch the Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus, and Redmi Note 5. Of the lot, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones have been confirmed to launch on December 7 through a Weibo post. The post also contains an image of the smartphone, which further confirms an edge-to-edge display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
This announcement comes hours after the Redmi 5 was leaked showing the smartphone’s design from all angles. The latest image of the Redmi 5 also goes in line with previous leaks. The Redmi 5 is seen with a large display, which will possibly be 5.7-inches in size with HD+ resolution. The smartphone sports almost no bezels on the sides, and really thin ones at the top and bottom. It isn’t confirmed if the Redmi 5 will continue with capacitive buttons or on-screen buttons. The leak also shows the Redmi 5 with a rear fingerprint sensor, and a single rear camera plus LED flash.

The smartphone will possibly come with 64GB of internal storage. For photography, the Redmi 5 could sport a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It will most likely be fueled by a 3,300mAh battery.

On the software front, the smartphone will most likely run Android 7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 on top. In terms of pricing, the Redmi 5 could retail at RMB 1,399 (Rs 13,600 approximately). Past reports, however, suggest a price tag of RMB 799 (approximately Rs 7,900).
The Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, could come with a bigger 5.9-inch full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 SoC. Unlike the Redmi 5, the Redmi 5 Plus is said to feature a dual-camera setup with a combination of 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors.
