Ahead of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018), Sony has unveiled three new smartphones for the selfie-obsessed users. The Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra are mid-tier smartphones, while the Xperia L2 is an entry-level model. Pricing and availability details of the three smartphones are yet to be announced.
Sony Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra differ on a few aspects such as display size, default storage, and battery. The Xperia A2 features a 5.2-inch display with full HD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution. The Xperia A2 Ultra, on the other hand, boasts a larger 6-inch full HD display. In terms of storage, the Xperia A2 is available only in 3GB RAM + 32GB default storage, while the Xperia A2 Ultra is available in a 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model and a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model as well. However, both models allow storage expansion up to 256GB via microSD card.
In terms of other specifications, both the Xperia A2 and Xperia A2 Ultra are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC and are equipped with 23-megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 aperture. With a focus on selfies, the Xperia XA2 features an 8-megapixel front camera with an ultra wide fixed-focus that gives 120-degree field-of-view for enhanced group selfies. The Xperia XA2 Ultra, on the other hand, comes with a dual-camera setup on the front with the same 8-megapixel ultra wide sensor along with an additional 16-megapixel sensor.
The Xperia A2 is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery, while the Xperia A2 Ultra is powered by a 3,580mAh battery. Other features include rear fingerprint sensors, USB Type-C support, and Android 8.0 Oreo running out-of-the-box.
Talking about the third smartphone released by Sony, the Xperia L2 is said to be an entry-level device. It features a 5.5-inch HD display, but runs the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC as the other two models with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
For optics, there’s a 13-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle front sensor for 120-degree field-of-view. The Xperia L2 is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery. On the software front, it runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. Other features include USB Type-C support, rear fingerprint sensor, and 4K video recording capabilities.
