Meizu is likely to launch the rumored Pro 6s at an event on October 31. It could also launch the Meizu M5 on the same date.

China-based Meizu is looking at expanding its smartphone portfolio after the launch of the M3 Max in its home country last month. The company has now posted a teaser image for an October 31 event. Coinciding with Halloween, Meizu could offer consumers a treat with a new smartphone. Although there is no mention about which product the company will launch, in light of the recent leaks and rumors, it is highly possible that the Meizu Pro 6s and Meizu M5 are announced.

Earlier this week, images of the purported Meizu Pro 6s were spotted on Chinese social media site Weibo. The images revealed benchmark results of the speculated smartphone. According to the leaks, the Meizu Pro 6s could feature a full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, MediaTek MT6796 deca-core processor, Mali-T880 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to come with 64GB of internal storage and run Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-of-the-box. The smartphone was also spotted on benchmarking website GeekBench under the codename ‘alps M92’. However, according to the benchmarks, the Meizu Pro 6s will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P20 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz and use 3GB of RAM.

As the name suggests, the Meizu Pro 6s is an improved variant of the Meizu Pro 6. However, there is no word on whether the Pro 6s will get the 3D press display that is present on its predecessor. Speculations indicate that the purported device will feature a capsule-shaped home button which will double up as a fingerprint scanner. While the Meizu Pro 6 comes with a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED HD display with 2.5D curved glass on top, it is unclear if the Meizu Pro 6s will also come with the same curved glass layered on top. The Meizu Pro 6 features a 21-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera for selfies, 2,560mAh battery with mCharge 3.0 fast charging support and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G and VoLTE support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, and USB Type-C port. On the software front, the Pro 6 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-of-the-box wrapped under Flyme OS. For the Meizu Pro 6s, the details do not go beyond the chipset, display type, and a glimpse into the appearance.

The Meizu Pro 6 is powered by a 2.5GHz MediaTek Helio X25 Deca-core processor paired with 4GB RAM, making it highly probable that the successor too could come with the same configuration. The smartphone was launched in two storage variants — 32GB and 64GB which were expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Other than the Meizu Pro 6s, rumors also indicate that the October 31 event could also be reserved for the launch of the Meizu M5. Details about the smartphone are scant with mention of humble specs including low RAM and internal storage. According to a few reports, the speculated Meizu M5 will boast a design that is in line with the company’s existing line of smartphones. Based on the AnTuTu benchmark, the purported smartphone achieves a fair 40,140 points score. The smartphone is likely to come with an HD display, MediaTek MT6750 chipset, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 13-megapixel rear camera. There is less information available about the speculated Meizu M5 but given the known bits of specification, it is likely that the handset will carry a pocket-friendly price tag.

When the Meizu Pro 6 was launched, it was priced at RMB 2,499 (approximately Rs 25,300) for the 32GB variant and RMB 2799 (approximately Rs 28,300) for the 64GB variant. By far, it is unclear if the new variant will be priced on similar lines. More clarity and details will emerge as the company officially takes to stage on October 31.
