Samsung Galaxy On Nxt vs OnePlus 2 vs Lenovo Z2 Plus vs Honor 8 Smart: Price, specifications and features

The new Samsung Galaxy On Nxt is equipped with a decent specifications and features, but can it compete with other smartphones that offer even powerful hardware in the same price range?


Samsung has today launched a new smartphone in its Galaxy On-series. Called the Galaxy On Nxt, the smartphone features a full metal unibody design, a 2.5D curved glass on front, and a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication, which is embedded inside the home button on the front. Unlike all other smartphones, there is one small change in the Galaxy On Nxt – the speaker placement is weirdly placed on the right edge, just above the power / sleep button. Priced in the mid-range segment, the smartphone will compete with the likes of OnePlus 2, Lenovo Z2 Plus and Honor 8 Smart. Here’s how the Galaxy On Nxt fares against its competitors based on their price, specifications and features.

Price and availability: The Galaxy On Nxt is priced at Rs 18,490 and is available exclusively via Flipkart. The OnePlus 2 is priced at Rs 17,999 (16GB variant) and Rs 19,999 (64GB variant), and is available to purchase from Amazon India. The Lenovo Z2 Plus is also offered in two storage variants – Rs 17,999 (32GB) and Rs 19,999 (64GB) and can be purchased exclusively from Amazon India. The Honor 8 Smart, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 19,999 and will be available to purchase from Flipkart.

Display: All smartphones feature full HD displays. The Galaxy On Nxt flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D curved glass display on top. The Lenovo Z2 Plus sports a 5-inch panel with 2.5D curved glass, the Honor 8 Smart features a 5.2-inch panel whereas the OnePlus 2 sports a 5.5-inch panel.

Chipset and RAM: Samsung has equipped the Galaxy On Nxt with an octa-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, supplemented with 3GB of RAM. The OnePlus 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor (four Cortex A53 cores, and four Cortex A57 cores), paired with 3GB / 4GB RAM depending on the storage variant that you choose. Lenovo’s Z2 Plus is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset paired with 3GB / 4GB RAM based on the storage variant chosen. The Honor 8 Smart, on the other hand, is powered by Kirin 650 octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Storage: The Galaxy On Nxt comes with 32GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 256GB. The Honor 8 Smart features 16GB of onboard storage, OnePlus 2 features 16GB and 64GB onboard storage options, whereas the Z2 Plus is offered in 32GB and 64GB storage options. Neither of these three smartphones expandable storage options.

Cameras: In the photography department, Samsung has included a 13-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/1.9 and LED flash, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera of aperture f/.9. The Honor 8 comes with 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 8-megapixel selfie snapper of aperture f/2.4. The OnePlus 2 comes with 13-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.0 with laser auto-focus and optical image stabilization (OIS), along with a 5-megapixel selfie snapper of aperture f/2.4. ALSO READ: OnePlus 2 review: Hyped assassin

Lenovo has equipped the Z2 Plus with a 13-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/2.2 with PDAF, LED flash and electronic image stabilization (EIS). It has also added support for recording time-lapse videos, slow motion videos at 120fps and 4K video recording.

Battery: The Samsung Galaxy On Nxt and OnePlus 2 are armed with a 3,300mAh non-removable battery, the Honor 8 Smart is armed with a 3,000mAh battery, whereas the Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with a slightly larger 3,500mAh battery.

Connectivity and operating system: On the connectivity front, the Galaxy On Next, OnePlus 2 and Z2 Plus include dual-SIM card slots, whereas Honor 8 Smart only includes a single SIM card slot. All smartphones feature 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi. While Galaxy On Nxt and Honor 8 Smart include a microUSB port for charging and data transfer, the OnePlus 3 and Lenovo Z2 Plus sport USB Type-C port. On the software front, all four smartphones run and Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

On paper, the Lenovo Z2 Plus wins hands down, but we will reserve our judgment till we review all smartphones.
