The Meizu M5 has been spotted yet again in leaked photos and benchmark listing. The smartphone is expected to be unveiled along with the Meizu Pro 6s on October 31. Here’s everything you should know.
Meizu is gearing up to launch the Pro 6s smartphone on November 3 and it has already started sending out media invites for the event. However, the Pro 6s may not be the only smartphone – the recently leaked M5 is also expected to be unveiled at the event. The Pro 6s has been subjected to a lot of leaks over the past few months, and now the M5 has also been spotted in leaked photos and benchmark listing which has released some of its key specifications and features.
Spotted by GizmoChina, a post on Weibo hints that the company might launch a smartphone which is likely the Meizu M5 aka Blue Charm 5. The news came into light when Meizu’s VP Li Nan’s replied to a user’s comment hinting that the device would be unveiled soon. Recently, the Meizu M5 was also leaked in renders that show off a polycarbonate body. On the back is the camera module, LED flash and Meizu logo. The left panel has a SIM-card slot but the photos of front-panel and right panel haven’t surfaced yet.
Meizu M5 specifications
Someone managed to run the smartphone through paces on Geekbench revealing some key specifications. It is expected to come with a 5-inch HD (720p) display and could be powered by a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There are rumors that there will be a 3GB RAM version of the device as well. The smartphone is said to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera. It is likely to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
The Meizu Pro 6s, on the other hand, is likely an upgraded variant of the Meizu Pro 6. It was recently certified by the China Compulsory Certificate (CCC). According to the rumors, the device will feature a capsule-shaped home button which will double up as a fingerprint scanner. Earlier this month, benchmark results of the smartphone were also spotted on Weibo. According to the leaks, the Meizu Pro 6s could feature a full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display, MediaTek MT6796 deca-core processor, Mali-T880 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The smartphone is expected to come with 64GB of internal storage and run Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-of-the-box.
Interestingly, the Meizu Pro 6s was recently also spotted on GeekBench under the codename ‘alps M92’. The benchmarking website revealed that the upcoming smartphone will be powered by a MediaTek Helio P20 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz, and it will pack 3GB of RAM. The smartphone may also come with 3D Press display which is similar to 3D Touch display on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. There is however, no word on the pricing of the Meizu Pro 6s yet.
In comparison, the Meizu Pro 6 32GB variant is available for RMB 2,499 which is approximately Rs 25,300, while the 64GB variant is priced at RMB 2799 which is Rs 28,300 approximately. It features a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED HD display with 2.5D curved glass on top. The Meizu Pro 6 is powered by a 2.5GHz MediaTek Helio X25 Deca-core processor paired with 4GB RAM, making it highly probable that the successor too could come with the same configuration.
The smartphone was launched in two storage variants — 32GB and 64GB which can further be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. On the camera front, the smartphone comes with a 21-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies. It is armed with a 2,560mAh battery with mCharge 3.0 fast charging support and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G and VoLTE support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS, and USB Type-C port. On the software front, the Pro 6 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-of-the-box wrapped under Flyme OS.
