Meizu’s rumored smartphone with bezel-less display is dubbed as the Pro 7. A host of leaks ranging from from its looks, design, specifications to its price have emerged online.
Few days earlier, an unannounced Meizu smartphone with bezel-less display had emerged online. This Xiaomi Mi Mix-inspired Meizu smartphone was also accompanied with a teaser hinting at a launch on December 24 with a tagline “Something unexpected is coming.” The Meizu smartphone appeared to have a display area ratio of close to 100 percent and also a fingerprint scanner embedded below the display suspected to be Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. More leaks have been spotted online, courtesy of leakster @KJuma, which reveals that the smartphone’s name is Meizu Pro 7 and also shed light on its design along with key specifications and its price.
The leaked images as spotted by AndroidPure, were posted on Weibo and looks like they were part of a PowerPoint presentation. The leaked images show the Meizu Pro 7 in what looks to be a metal body with the display covering almost 100 percent of the screen. As seen previously, the front display houses a fingerprint scanner, which is suspected to be Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. However, one of the leaked images also mentions Sonavation, a leading company in manufacturing ultrasonic biometric fingerprint sensors. Even though the manufacturer may not be confirmed but a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display is most likely to feature in the Meizu Pro 7. According to the image, it a has web camera-like selfie camera popping out from the top of the device, which most probably is because no space for a camera lens on the front.
On the back of the smartphone, the rear camera lens is placed vertically with the Meizu branding embedded below. Antenna bands can be seen running along the sides of the smartphone, both top and bottom. The power button and the volume rocker are located on the right side of the smartphone.
According to leaks, the Meizu Pro 7 is expected to feature a 5.62-inch Super AMOLED display with display resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The Meizu Pro 7 is also expected to be only 6.5mm thin. Although there isn’t any information on the processor, GSMArena reports that Meizu will opt for Huawei’s Kirin 960 chipset instead of using Samsung’s Exynos chipset. The Kirin 960 chipset is also said to be paired with the new Cortex-A73 CPU cores and the Mali-G71 Vulkan-enabled GPU.
Moving ahead, the Meizu Pro 7 is expected to come with 6GB RAM and storage options of 64GB and 128GB. In the photography front, the Meizu Pro 7 is expected to sport an 8-megapixel selfie camera which is seen popping out on the front and a 12-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX 386 sensors. The Meizu pro 7’s battery although not mentioned, is said to come with mCharge 4.0 which can fully charge the smartphone in 40 minutes. The Android OS which the smartphone will run on will be wrapped under Meizu’s Flyme 5.1. ALSO READ: Meizu m5 Note with Helio P10 chipset, 13-megapixel camera leaked; here’s what we know so far
In addition to this, the launch date of December 24 remains the same with the time given as 20.00PM CST. The price of the Meizu Pro 7 has also been mentioned on the leaked images. The 6GB plus 64GB variant is priced at CNY 2699 (Rs 26,700 approximately) and the 6GB plus 128GB variant is priced at CNY 3099 (Rs 30,700 approximately). There has been no official word so far on the Pro 7 or the likeliness of a bezel-less smartphone by Meizu. And since the authenticity of the leaked images cannot be judged, it would be wise to take the information with a grain of salt.
Reports about Meizu’s bezel-less camera come days after Xiaomi introduced the concept Mi Mix smartphone with bezel less display. The Mi Mix has a 6.4-inch near bezel-less display with screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent. The smartphone skips the metal frame, and uses ceramic instead. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. There is another ‘Pro’ variant with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Price of the Mi Mix starts at RMB 3,499, which is approximately Rs 34,000.
