Apart from launching the OnePlus 3T, the company has also announced its plans to roll out Android Nougat for the new smartphone, and its predecessor.
OnePlus launched the OnePlus 3T smartphone last night, which is a revamped and refreshed version of their flagship device. The OnePlus 3T comes with improved specifications and features, but surprisingly, runs on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box. Fortunately, during the launch last night, the company made a major announcement about how Android Nougat 7.0 will be hitting both the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3 smartphones before the end of this year.
The news of the OnePlus 3 receiving Android Nougat update had been revealed few days ago, but yesterday’s announcement extends the update for the OnePlus 3T as well. AndroidHeadlines reports that during the launch, OnePlus said that they see the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 3 as the same phone, just different versions and thus, they decided to keep the same update schedule for both the phones. The report quotes OnePlus as saying, “OnePlus 3 users, rest assured: we consider the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T to be two versions of the same phone, so software updates will follow the same schedule. Android Nougat will come to both phones later this year.”
OnePlus did not confirm on a date for the update, but it will most likely be in December. It is however confirmed that the beta version of the Android Nougat will be available for the OnePlus 3 this month, and OnePlus 3T may get the beta update as well. Android Nougat’s beta build was first launched on March 9, 2016 and it was officially released on August 22, 2016. Nougat is the seventh version of the Android OS system and comes with new features like the option to move tiles according to one’s preference on the Quick Settings menu. One major feature includes the ‘Multi-window view’ which allows users to switch between apps with a double tap and also run two apps side by side. Nougat also comes with Vulcan 3D API which will highly benefit gamers, as Vulcan gives higher performance with lower CPU use. It also provides game developers with greater control over the graphic processors. Nougat devices will be equipped with seamless updates, which will run updates in the background. The OS also brings with it over 1,500 emojis and also the ability to use two or more languages at the same time.
In the latest Android distribution system list, Android 7.0 Nougat finally made its debut with its presence on 0.3 percent devices. Its presence is bound to increase as a bunch of smartphones are lined up to receive the update soon. LG G5 is the latest smartphone to receive the update, while other devices which will receive the update include HTC 10, HTC One M10, HTC One A9, Sony Xperia X Performance, Sony Xperia XZ, and Sony Xperia X among others. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus had been expected to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, but the smartphones are still running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This year, instead of the customary Nexus devices receiving the latest Android update first, the LG V20 was the first smartphone to launch with Nougat out-of-the-box. Samsung, one of the slowest with Android updates, has also started offering the OS update via its Samsung Beta program, and we should see the official update rolling out in a few months. OnePlus 3T specifications
The OnePlus 3T comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset, 6GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear and selfie cameras, and a 3,400mAh battery. The smartphone also comes with a fingerprint scanner, Alert Slider and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, NFC, USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Prices for the OnePlus 3T start at $439 (Rs 30,000 approximately) for the 64GB variant and it will on sale from November 22 in the US and Canada, and in other markets from November 28.
