Lenovo's ZUK brand has teased the imminent launch of a new smartphone, dubbed ZUK Edge. There is however no specific date for launch.

Lenovo’s ZUK brand is known for its powerful yet affordable smartphones. After launching a surprisingly affordable ZUK Z2 smartphone with Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB of RAM, for as low as RMB 1,800, which translates to less than Rs 18,500, now the company is ready to launch the rumored ZUK Edge smartphone. The launch has been confirmed by new images of the ZUK Edge, which have been shared by the company head, Chang Cheng. Although his post still does not reveal details of the release date of the smartphone, but the post does hint at a launch soon. The image posted by Cheng shows a black and a white sheet, with ZUK Edge written on it, which may be indicative of the smartphone being released in these color variants.

Interestingly, this image has surfaced right after a ZUK phone with code Z2151 showed up in a TENAA listing revealing a bunch of details about the smartphones. Now, going by the name, naturally the ZUK Edge is expected to come with a curved display, however, the images released on TENAA don’t really show the curved edges.

The images showed the front, back and side profile of the smartphone, revealing a selfie camera lens right above the display, with a home button placed at the bottom of the face of the phone. The back of the smartphone showed a rear camera lens placed vertically with the LED flash. Down below, the ZUK branding could be seen. The power button and the volume rocker sat on the right side of the smartphone and the SIM slot tray was located on the left side.

ZUK Edge specifications

The TENAA listing also revealed that the ZUK Edge will feature a 5.5-inch full HD display. Under the hood, the smartphone will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clocked at 2.35GHz and paired with Adreno 530 GPU. The smartphone will come with 4GB of RAM and internal storage of 64GB. There are speculations that the smartphone will not come with expandable storage. ALSO READ: ZUK Edge with Snapdragon 821 processor spotted on TENAA, could feature dual-curved display

In the photography department, the ZUK Edge will sport a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Up front, there will be an 8-megapixel selfie camera. For power, the ZUK Edge will be powered by a 3,000mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphone will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The smartphone will weigh around 160 grams and will be 7.68mm thick.

Recently, there was another ZUK smartphone, which was spotted on TENAA with the same model number and the same set of specifications. In the previous listing, it was revealed that this ZUK smartphone will come with a 64GB storage variant as well. There is no official word on the launch of ZUK Edge but some reports suggest that Lenovo will launch the smartphone by the end of this year. It is also expected that the smartphone will hit global markets in the first three months of 2017.

It will be interesting to see if Lenovo will bring the smartphone to India. Recently, Lenovo brought the ZUK Z2 to India, but named it Z2 Plus instead. The only smartphone from the ZUK series that has not arrived in India is the ZUK Z2 Pro. It is the brand’s current flagship device with features like 5.2-inch full HD super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor, 64GB/128GB storage variants, 4GB/6GB RAM options, 13-megapixel rear camera with OIS, 8-megapixel selfie camera, and 3,100mAh battery. The 6GB and 128GB variant of the ZUK Z2 Pro is priced at 2,699 Yuan which roughly translates to Rs 27,000.
