Sony has published a list of Xperia devices that will be treated with goodness of Android 7.0 Nougat update. These include the recently launched Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA and Xperia X Performance among others.

Now that Google has released the final version of Android 7.0 Nougat for its range of Nexus smartphones, it’s time for manufacturers to announce which of its smartphones will be updated to the latest Android version. Samsung has already confirmed that the Galaxy Note 7 will be getting the update in two or three months, with Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge also in line. HTC and LG have also confirmed the smartphones that will be getting the Nougat update. Now, Sony has joined the list by publishing which of its devices are in line to be treated with the goodness of Android Nougat.

According to Sony’s upgrade roadmap, the recently launched Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance smartphones will be updated to the latest Android version. The list also includes the likes of Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, and last year’s flagship smartphones — the Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact. As of now, Sony hasn’t mentioned any timeline as to when the update will arrive. Sadly, the Xperia Z3, which was the first non-Nexus smartphone to get the Android N Developer Preview isn’t included in the list.

While Sony has mentioned that it will try updating as many devices as possible to the latest Android version, considering the track record, it doesn’t seem like more devices will be added. If you own a Sony smartphone besides the one mentioned, chances are that they might remain on the current software.

Android 7.0 Nougat brings a host of new features and performance improvements to the tow.  The new mobile OS from Google brings support for multi-window feature, allowing you to run two apps side by side. Google has also revamped the notifications pane with inline reply feature, which will let you reply to text messages without having to open the app. The feature also includes support for third-party apps. ALSO READ: How do you pronounce Nougat and everything else the Internet is asking about the new Android N name

Google has also made improvements to doze mode to get more juice from the battery. In Marshmallow, doze mode used to suspend background apps when the smartphone was left untouched for some time. Now, with Nougat, the feature will also work when the screen is turned off. There is also a new data saver mode, allowing you to restrict background data consumption of background apps. You can, however, whitelist apps that you want to have internet access all the time, even on metered connections. Other features of Android 7.0 Nougat include always-on VPN, call screening and number blocking, Emoji Unicode 9 support, Vulkan API to offer significant boost in gaming performance for graphics-hungry apps and more. Google has also included a dedicated Daydream VR mode in Android Nougat, but older devices are unlikely to include the feature as it will need new hardware too.
