Nokia P-prototype leak

Nokia is expected to release three devices in 2017 as it marks its comeback in the smartphone industry.

The year 2017 is expected to bring in a lot of surprises with the re-launch of Nokia brand in the smartphone market. It is rumored that the once popular Finnish mobile maker will be introducing not one, but three, smartphones based on Android OS. Among these, we have already come across leaks surrounding the Nokia D1C – the most affordable of the trio, to be priced around Rs 10,000. Now, more details have emerged about the other two smartphones — dubbed Nokia Z2 Plus and Nokia P — in the form of benchmark and prototype leaks.

The Nokia Z2 Plus, with a name mimicking Lenovo Z2 Plus, has been spotted on benchmarking website Geekbench, revealing some of its key features and specifications. Based on the leaks, the Nokia Z2 Plus achieves a single-core test score of 2,156 and a multi-core test score of 5,217. The details further reveal that the Nokia Z2 Plus will come powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor clocked at 1.77GHz. The motherboard is listed as MSM8996, or in other words, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset. Running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box, the smartphone is further listed as having 4GB of RAM. These are the only details available about the second Nokia smartphone by far.

Nokia Z2 Plus-benchmark leaks

Coming to the third Nokia smartphone, dubbed Nokia P; the smartphone is touted to be a premium flagship handset. Latest leaks originating from Weibo hint at an alleged Nokia P prototype. The post includes two images of the said smartphone, showing off what looks like an iPhone-inspired design in matte black finish. Based on the images, the purported smartphone features the power button and volume rockers on the right. On the front panel as well as the rear is the good old Nokia branding. The rear is shown featuring the antenna bands on the top and bottom. One can’t exactly make out if the rear camera module houses dual lenses, but the LED flash does sit above the lens. ALSO READ: Nokia D1C smartphone to be priced around Rs 10,000: Report

In terms of specifications, the Nokia P is speculated to feature a quad HD resolution display, and Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM. It could further boast a 23-megapixel Carl Zeiss rear camera. The latest revelations fall somewhat in line with earlier rumors, which hinted at the HMD Global Oy-controlled company unveiling two high-end smartphones one with a 5.2-inch display and other with a 5.5-inch 2K display with Snapdragon 820 or Snapdragon 821 chip onboard. It was further said that the speculated Nokia smartphones will come in two RAM variants of 4GB and 6GB with a Carl Zeiss-certified camera.

The three speculated Nokia-branded smartphones, namely the Nokia D1C, Nokia Z2 Plus, and the Nokia P, are expected to be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017 that kick starts on February 27. Although Nokia’s parent company has already announced that it will be announcing some Nokia devices at the event, it is too early to expect that the flagship Nokia P device will make it to the show. The reason for the delay is attributed to Nokia’s strategy for its re-launch where it intends to first target the low-end and mid-range markets before getting into the premium segment. Nonetheless, all the information surrounding the specifications and features of the smartphones are yet to be officially announced. We will have to wait for the company to formally take to stage at MWC 2017 to get a clearer picture. ALSO READ: HMD will need more than Nokia’s legacy to succeed with its Android smartphones
