Nokia 6 is priced at 1699 CNY (approximately Rs 16,750) and is currently exclusive to China.

Looks like Nokia is set for a warm comeback when its first Android smartphone – Nokia 6 – goes on sale this week in China. The smartphone was launched earlier this month and is set to go on sale on January 19. Just two days before the scheduled sale of the Nokia 6, the smartphone has already raked in 1 million registrations. The number is significant given that the Nokia 6 is exclusive to China.

Nokia’s comeback smartphone is priced at 1699 CNY (approximately Rs 16,750) and it is available for purchase only through JD.com. Nokia has two categories for registrations- one is a free reservation while the other category requires one to pay RMB 66 (approximately Rs 650). In 24 hours of launching the Nokia 6 on January 8, the company had announced that over 9,200 have paid to reserve the smartphone, while free reservations have crossed a whopping 411,470. It is to be noted that registrations are not pre-orders. Priority is given to paid reservations.

Interestingly, the e-commerce site does not provide shipping outside of the country and there is by far no official word on the availability of the device in international markets, GSMArena notes. At the time of launching the Nokia 6, HMD Global explained that it chose to China as the exclusive market as it “is a reflection of the desire to meet the real world needs of consumers in different markets around the world.” ALSO READ: Nokia 6 unboxing video, camera samples surface online

Nokia 6 specifications and features

The Nokia 6 features an aluminium unibody design and comes with a 5.5-inch in-cell full HD display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with X6 LTE modem and paired with 4GB of RAM. It further includes 64 GB of internal storage which can be further expanded via microSD card. The smartphone is powered by Android 7.0 Nougat.

In the photography segment, the Nokia 6 features a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF along with an 8 megapixel front snapper with f/2.0 aperture for selfies or video calling. Keeping the smartphone ticking is a 3,000mAh battery. The sound output on the smartphone has been further powered by Dolby Atmos. ALSO READ: Dear Nokia, it’s good to have you back, but the world has changed!

While it looks like Nokia’s first Android smartphone will receive a positive response from consumers and industry analysts alike, the Nokia 6 is but a stepping stone in the brand’s re-entry in the smartphone business. It is expected that HMD Global will be releasing up to seven Nokia-branded smartphones this year and the next anticipated model — Nokia 8 — will be making its debut as soon as the MWC 2017 in Barcelona.
