The heat pipe used in the Galaxy S7 was the thinnest in the market and the Galaxy S8 is expected to come with the same internal design.
Samsung is trying its best to keep it cool with its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone. Based on the latest rumors, the anticipated flagship smartphone will come with a heat pipe that was introduced with the Galaxy S7. It was earlier rumored that Samsung will move to a new heat pipe design for its next smartphone, but the company reportedly decided to continue with the older design with a single pipe.
Previous reports suggested that Samsung will move to a new two-pipe design with ultra-thin heat pipes to further enhance heat dissipation in the Galaxy S8. However, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers, Samsung will be using the same single ultra-thin heat pipe design which was used for the Galaxy S7. It is further expected that shipment of the heat pipes for the Galaxy S8 will start in February.
A report on GSMArena notes that when the Galaxy S7 was launched, its heat pipe was the thinnest in the market at just 0.4mm. An internal thermal-pipe facilitates heat dissipation which in turn ensures the device doesn’t warm up to dangerous levels. It essentially takes the heat generated from the processor and brings it to a graphite sheet on the back where it can be dispersed. Amidst growing concerns about overheating devices, manufacturers are gradually moving towards including these heat pipes in their smartphones. Other than Samsung, LG is also expected to include similar heat pipe in its upcoming LG G6 smartphone.
In terms of external designing, the Galaxy S8 is rumored to feature a near bezel-less display with rounded corners. Similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S8 will also come in a curved-edge variant which will be further enhanced in terms of looks owing to the thin bezel design. Based on reports till now, the variants of the smartphone are likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC or Exynos 8895 chipset and could come paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM along with 128GB or 256GB onboard storage options. The Galaxy S8 is further expected to feature a dual-camera setup, similar to the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. It is likely to feature one 16-megapixel RGB sensor, and an 8-megapixel monochrome sensor at the back. For selfies and video calling, it is expected to come with a front-facing camera with auto-focus capabilities. The rest of the rumored features include 4,200mAh battery with support for fast charging and wireless fast charging; while connectivity options are expected to include fingerprint sensor, 4G LTE with VoLTE, dual SIM card support, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. In the software department, the Galaxy S8 will run Android Nougat 7.1.1 out-of-the-box, wrapped under Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.
While there is no word on the launch date of the Galaxy S8, it is expected that Samsung will announce the device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona followed by a commercial launch in April.
The anticipated flagship smartphone is expected to pull the company out of its global embarrassment caused over exploding Note 7 batteries. The Galaxy Note 7, soon after its launch became the cause of fires and accidents to an extent where airlines were barring passengers from carrying the phablet device. Following a global recall, Samsung issued public apology for the major fiasco. The cause of the exploding batteries has not been formally acknowledged by the company yet. However, analysts believe that it was in fact the battery which was the causing the smartphones to explode at will. Some also indicated that in order to compete with the launch of Apple iPhone 7, Samsung hastily designed the Note 7, overlooking issues with its overheating and potentially explosive batteries.
