LG has launched the V20, and it runs on Android Nougat out-of-the-box. Here are its top-six features.

LG has launched the V20, which as the name suggests is the successor to the V10. One of the talking points of the V20 is that it is among the first smartphones to come preloaded with Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box. But that’s not all, the V20 is also packed with audio and video features and LG claims this is ‘the’ smartphone for audiophiles. The company will begin its sales for the V20 in Korea this month and will release the smartphone in other markets soon. However, LG hasn’t revealed the price of the smartphone yet. The LG V20 will be available in three colors — titan, silver and pink.

LG says that it kept in mind the drawbacks of the V10 and developed the V20 with all the improvements it needed and required. Keeping the camera and audio features intact, LG V20 comes with better features and also sports an aluminum back with a fingerprint sensor placed below the camera lens. Since LG V20 is power-packed with features, it would be an injustice to not talk about them. So let’s take a look at the smartphone’s specifications, followed by a list of its top features.

LG V20 specifications

LG V20 smartphone features a 5.7-inch QHD (2560×1440 pixels) IPS display with a secondary IPS Quantum display. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.15GHz. The smartphone comes with 4GB of RAM, and onboard storage of 64GB.

On the photography front, it sports two rear cameras — a 16-megapixel snapper with f/1.8 aperture and the an 8-megapixel. It also sports a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/1.9 aperture. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with LG UX 5.0+, an upgraded version of the LG UX 5.0. The smartphone is backed by a 3,200mAh removable battery with Quick Charge 3.0. Its connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C support, Bluetooth 4.2 BLE and NFC. The smartphone does not have dual-SIM support.

Following are six noteworthy features of the new LG V20.

First smartphone to come with Android Nougat

LG proudly boasts that the V20 is the first smartphone to come with the latest Android, Android Nougat 7.0 beating Google’s Nexus smartphones this time. LG V20 will however have its custom skin on top of everything, despite running on Android Nougat 7.0. LG V20 will feature Android Nougat’s multi-screen feature which lets users run apps side-by-side. So you can watch videos and reply to messages at the same time.

LG V20’s second screen

LG’s second screen forte continues with the LG V20. It is an improved second screen though as it comes with increased brightness and 50 percent larger font size as compared to the V10. The second screen also features Expandable Notifications feature which can be tapped on to enlarge and send quick replies or share information.

LG V20’s audio and video features

LG V20 is the first smartphone to feature the 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC which is aimed at giving the best audio experience for its users. The digital-to-analog converter delivers a crisp and clear sound close to a live performance when used with a compatible wired headphone. It claims to reduce up to 50 percent of ambient noise levels. But keep in mind that it will only work best when used with a good set of cabled headphones.

The LG V20 comes with Qualcomm’s Steady Record 2.0 which features electronic image stabilization (EIS) 3.0 to record sharper videos and neutralize shaky images. It also helps in post-processing by adjusting objects across frames and minimizing distortion in videos. With Hi-Fi Recording, users can remove unwanted background with options like Low Cut Filter and can also adjust the voices using Limter.

LG V20’s HD Audio Recorder brings a recording studio to your fingertips. It has three AOP microphones and has different audio modes. Using Studio mode, you can add your own voice to previous recordings and using Concert mode you can adjust the sound levels suiting to your requirements.

LG V20’s dual cameras

Along with the dual-camera setup at the back, the V20 also boasts Hybrid Auto-Focus which integrates three mechanisms namely Laser Detection AF, Phase Detection AF and Contrast AF, for both photos and videos as well. The three mechanisms work together to choose the right system. The 5-megapixel selfie camera also has an ultra-wide 120-degree lens.

Design and durability of the LG V20

The LG V20 comes in lightweight aluminum body along with a fingerprint sensor placed on the back below the camera lens. The top and bottom of the smartphone comes with Silicone Polycarbonate (Si-PC) for protection from damage which LG claims can withstand everyday drops. The smartphone is also rated MIL-STD 810G drop and shock resistant.

LG V20 also has a replaceable battery like the V10 but the change here is that, it comes with a customized button to easily remove the back cover. The button is placed on the right side of the smartphone and when pressed pops off the back cover making it easy to remove and replace the battery.

Google’s In Apps feature

LG V20 is the first smartphone to showcase Google’s In Apps. It is a new search mode feature in the Google app. It allows you to search content not just from the built-in apps but also from the apps that you have installed. It also helps in discovering recently accessed apps, messages to read or activity across apps.
