The smartphone could be placed in the premium segment priced between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000.
Micromax, India’s largest smartphone company has been quiet for the past few quarters. However, the company is now gearing up to launch a new smartphone soon. Micromax has already started teasing the same on Twitter with a GIF image having caption “Cannot Overlook”, where the letter “O” is highlighted in a way that it looks like a dual-camera lens. And if we have to go by the hint in the teaser, it could be Micromax’s first smartphone to feature a dual-camera setup.

Reports suggest that Micromax plans to launch a new series called ‘Bharat’, along with a new business strategy under which it will unveil a premium smartphone alongside budget smartphones. As a part of its new business strategy, the premium smartphone may be priced between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000. It is also worth noting that it could be the company’s first high-end smartphone after the Canvas 6 Pro which was launched in August last year.
Having said that, reports also suggest that the smartphone will offer value for money specification with top notch hardware, along with a premium metal design. In fact, the design could be completely different from what we have been seeing in current Micromax smartphone lineup. According to IndiaToday, Micromax may also ditch the microUSB port and instead opt for a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. The smartphone could also feature support for fast charging technology. While that’s all the information we have, the unnamed-premium smartphone from Micromax is said to be unveiled either by the end of this month or in early April.
Rumor mills also suggest that Micromax will be launching budget smartphones under a new ‘Bharat’ series. These smartphones could feature basic specifications and run on Android OS. Powered by Spreadtrum chipset, and featuring 4G LTE connectivity, the smartphones could cost approximately Rs 3,500. To capitalize on the recent push towards a cashless economy, the Bharat-series smartphones could also come integrated with digital payment apps. With the ‘Bharat’ series Micromax is likely to target first-time smartphone buyers that could be looking at a smartphone with an internet connection. However, the company has not yet announced the series officially, and we’d suggest you to take this piece of information with a grain of salt.
Just to put things into perspective, Micromax has slipped down from the top three position to fifth in the overall rankings in the Indian smartphone market.
