Lava Z10, Z25 launched at prices starting Rs 11,500: Specifications and features

The Lava Z10 and Lava 25 run on Android Marshmallow, and compete in the budget category.


Lava announced two new Z series smartphones today. Dubbed, Lava Z10 and Lava Z25, the smartphones are from the mid-range affordable category, and carry price tags of Rs 11,500 and Rs 18,000 respectively. The Lava Z10 is available only in Gold color, while the Lava Z25 is available in Champagne Gold and Grey color choices. The Z series will start selling in select retail stores from tomorrow in Delhi, followed by other cities in the coming weeks.

The Lava Z10 and Lava Z25 run on Android Marshmallow with Star OS 3.3 layered above. At the given price, the new Lava Z series competes with a host of recently launched smartphones in the budget category, including the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Nubia Z11 Mini S, and Honor 6X.

Lava Z10 specifications and features

Priced lower among the two, the Lava Z10 features a metal body design and comes with a 5-inch HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass on top for protection. It is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage. The storage can be further boosted up to 128GB via microSD card.

For photography, it features an 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture along with a 5-megapixel front camera. Camera features include Beauty-Fi, Bokeh, Night Pro, and Continuous Shot. It further supports full HD video playback. ALSO READ: Nubia Z11 Mini S Review

It is fuelled by a 2,620mAh battery and comes with Super Power Saver Mode for extended usage. Connectivity options include dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, OTG, and USB 2.0.

The Lava Z25 also features a metal body design and boasts a larger 5.5-inch HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass. It is powered by 1.5GHz octa-core processor which is paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. One can further boost the storage up to 128GB via microSD card.

For photography, the smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF, f/2.0 aperture and Sony Exmor RS IMX 258 Sensor with dual-LED flash. For selfies, it comes with an 8-megapixel front shooter with f/2.0 aperture and spotlight flash. The smartphone draws its juice from a 3,020mAh battery. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS,A-GPS, Bluetooth, OTG, and USB 2.0. The smartphone also comes with a rear fingerprint sensor which is absent from the Z10 model.

If one looks at the competition, the new Lava Z series smartphones have nothing awe-inspiring to offer. At a much lesser price, Xiaomi is offering a much better display resolution through its Redmi Note 4. Priced at Rs 9,999 onwards, the Redmi Note 4 also boasts a higher megapixel count for its rear camera along with a massive 4,100mAh battery capacity.

The Lava Z25, on the other hand, faces competition from the recently launched Nubia Z11 Mini S, which is priced at Rs 16,999. The smartphone offers a 23-megapixel rear camera along with more onboard storage if compared to the Lava Z25.
