The Redmi 4 offers decent set of specifications and features for its price. But how does it compete with its competitors? We find out.
Soon after announcing the launch of its Mi Home store in Bengaluru last week, Xiaomi has today launched its affordable Redmi 4 smartphone in India. The smartphone brings most of the good bits from the Redmi Note 4 in a compact package. At its price range, the Redmi 4 will compete with the likes of Micromax Vdeo 4 and Samsung Galaxy J1 4G (2017). We compared all three smartphones based on their price specifications and features, and here’s how they fare.
Price and availability
The Xiaomi Redmi 4 is offered in three storage variants priced between Rs 6,999 and Rs 10,999. The first sale of the smartphone will take place on May 20 at the Mi Home store in Bengaluru. On Amazon India and Mi.com, the smartphone will go on sale starting May 23.
The Micromax Vdeo 4 is priced at Rs 6,249 and is available to purchase from online and offline retailers. The Samsung Galaxy J1 4G (2017), on the other hand, is priced at Rs 6,890 and can be purchased from online as well as offline retailers.
Specifications and features
The Redmi 4 and Micromax Vdeo 4 feature a 5-inch HD (720p) display, whereas the Galaxy J1 4G (2017) features a slightly compact 4.5-inch WVGA display running at a resolution of 480x800pixels. Clearly, the Redmi 4 and Vdeo 4 have a slight edge here. The Redmi 4 also features a 2.5D curved glass, which is something missing from the other devices. Cameras
In the photography department, the Redmi 4 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF and LED flash, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The Vdeo 4 features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front snapper. On the whole, the Redmi 4 has a lot going in its favor, right from the metal unibody design, to a better display with 2.5D curved glass, better hardware and a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
