Sony will unveil the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact at IFA 2017 today.
Sony will hold its pre-IFA event today where the company is rumored to unveil the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact. The latest smartphones from its XZ lineup have been leaked consistently over the past few weeks. Even the launch is right around the corner, the Xperia XZ1 is already out in the open with its images and specifications revealed.
The Inquirer got a hold of the Xperia XZ1, and the smartphone has stayed true to its leaks in terms of design. As rumored before, the smartphone will be available globally in September in four color options of blue, pink, silver, and black. The smaller variant of the two, the Xperia XZ1 Compact will also be released at the same time.
Talking about the design, the Xperia XZ1 looks quite like the Xperia XZ Premium with the diamond cut chamfered edges in a metal body. Sony has continued the ‘Loop’ design with the Xperia XZ1 as well. Up front, the two speakers remain intact on top and bottom. The power button is located on the right, and also doubles as a fingerprint sensor as seen in the XZ Premium. The rear cameras take the same circular shape on the top-left and the auto-focus and LED placed beside it. One noticeable difference is that the Xperia XZ1 has two antenna lines running along the right and left side of the smartphone. Also, the Xperia XZ1 doesn’t sport a glossy back finish as compared to the XZ Premium. ALSO READ: Sony Xperia XZ Premium Review: A true ‘premium’ flagship smartphone in every sense
Some of the Xperia XZ1′s confirmed specifications include a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display with HDR, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC. On the software front, the smartphone runs the latest Android 8.0 Oreo with Sony’s custom UI on top. Although the camera’s megapixel count isn’t determined as yet, it is built using Sony’s Exmor RS sensor. ALSO READ: Sony’s Xperia XZ1 Compact renders leaked in new video
Sony says that the sensor is upgraded and built using the company’s Motion Eye technology, and claims to produce photos other smartphones cannot compete with. Another first for a smartphone that the Xperia XZ1 has is the 3D scanning feature. The smartphone is said to scan high-quality scans within a minute. It can be done using four scan modes of head, face, food, and freeform.
As for the rest of its specifications, the Xperia XZ1 is rumored to come with 4GB of RAM with 64GB of onboard storage. For photography, it will most likely sport a 19-megapixel rear camera, and a 13-megapixel front camera. Both the cameras are said to come with support for 4K video recording.
