Will the iPhone 8 Plus become the next Samsung Galaxy Note 7?
Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus shipped this week in several global markets, however, the smartphones are turning nightmare for some of the customers. As reported first by 9to5Mac, one of the customers in Taiwan was shocked to see the screen of her all-new iPhone 8 Plus split apart revealing inside hardware. Few other similar cases have been reported too.
As per the reports, the Taiwanese customer had put her iPhone 8 Plus in charge and the display popped up from the body within three minutes of being plugged. The customer says that she was using original Apple accessories shipped in the box to charge the smartphone. The incident happened after five days from the purchase.
Another iPhone 8 Plus customer from Japan posted a similar case on Twitter. The customer who goes by the username of Magokoro0511 on Twitter was shocked to see the iPhone 8 Plus split open while it was inside the box only. As his post reads, he bought the iPhone 8 Plus and upon unboxing he found the smartphone already inflated and the screen was bulging out of the body. In the wake these two cases being reported, Apple has started investigating the case. However, the company has not made any official statement yet. According to The Next Web report, some unconfirmed reports suggest that Apple iPhone 8 Plus uses a battery made by the same manufacturer Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) as the Galaxy Note 7. Notably, no burn marks or wear and tear has been noted in the two cases. Thus, we recommend readers to take this with a pinch of salt as two cases do not seem enough to take it as a widespread issue. Also, this is not the first time when Apple’s newest flagship smartphones have found itself in a tide. The company launched the iPhone 6 in 2014, which was susceptible to bending due to manufacturing defects. Apple faced quite a backlash from infuriated customers and #bendgate trended on social media. Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus went on sale in India on September 29 and fortunately, no such case has been reported in the country so far.
