The next rumored smartphone on Samsung’s C series, the Galaxy C9 has been teased in China. The smartphone is expected to sport 6GB of RAM with 16-megapixel rear and selfie cameras.
Samsung’s China exclusive C-series smartphones debuted this year with the Galaxy C5 and C7. There have been reports that Samsung is working on the next smartphone for its C-series, which is reportedly called the Galaxy C9 and is believed to be the successor of the Galaxy C7. The Galaxy C9 is also expected to be launched next month. The smartphone has already been spotted on several benchmarking websites and also on import-export website Zauba. Recently, the Samsung Galaxy C9 was listed on US’ FCC certification site and now Samsung has begun teasing the smartphone in China ahead of its official launch.
The teaser was posted on Samsung’s official Weibo account which if looked at, is a very dark picture with little visibility. Below the smartphone reads a line, “The next big thing is coming.” If we look closely at the poster, we can see that it is the back of the smartphone with a faint Samsung logo etched on it. On top, the antenna band is noticeable as evident in the Galaxy C series smartphones and also the curved edges. The Power button can also be seen located on the side of the smartphone. As mentioned above, the picture is very dark and on top of it, the smartphone is shown in black cover which only adds to the stark visibility so we can’t say if the smartphone does feature a full metal body like the Galaxy C5 and C7. Also, Samsung has not mentioned the name of the smartphone, but owing to multiple rumors and the similarities noticed from the teaser, there is a high possibility that it is the Galaxy C9.
Samsung Galaxy C9 specifications
As mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy C9 was listed on US’ FCC certification site which showed the same model number as rumored before — SM-C9000. As per FCC documents, the Samsung Galaxy C9 will come with a massive 4,000mAh battery. The FCC listing also shed light on the Galaxy C9’s connectivity options which include 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth 4.2.
As for the rest of the specifications, from what we have known so far, the Samsung Galaxy C9 is expected to feature a 6-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, although previous rumors have hinted at a 5.7-inch display as well. Under the hood of the Galaxy C9, a Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor paired with Adreno GPU is expected to run. The Galaxy C9 is expected to come with 6GB of RAM as revealed by the recent Geekbench listing, making it the first Samsung smartphone to do so and will hence, join the likes of the OnePlus 3 and LeEco Le Max 2.
In the photography department, the smartphone is expected to sport 16-megapixel camera on the front and on the back. On the software front, the Samsung Galaxy C9 is expected to run on Android 6.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box as mentioned in the FCC certification. The Samsung Galaxy C7 was launched along with the Galaxy C5 smartphone earlier this year. The Galaxy C9 is believed to be the successor to the Galaxy C7 and if compared with the expected specifications, then some changes and improvements can be noticed. First would be the display size as the Galaxy C7 features a 5.7-inch display but retains the same Super AMOLED display. The RAM would be a big improvement from the existing 4GB in the C7 to 6GB in the C9. The Galaxy C7 also sports a 16-megapxiel rear camera but on the C9, the 16-megapixel cameras are expected to come on both the front and back. The battery is also a huge improvement from C7’s 3,300mAh to 4,000mAh in the Galaxy C9. The connectivity options remain the same as in the C7 and the C9. The Galaxy C7 when launched in China was priced around $396 which roughly translates to Rs 26,000 approximately.
Samsung has so far launched its Galaxy C-series smartphones in China only, so it is unlikely that the Galaxy C9 will be launched in other markets. However, there are rumors that the Galaxy C9 will make it to the US market around mid-November. Considering how its premier flagship device the Galaxy Note 7 is failing miserably, it could be a good move to ship the Galaxy C9 in other markets as well.
