After Google Maps rolled out support for two-wheelers in India, the platform is now preparing another new feature. Reportedly, Google Maps will soon give you a more detailed guidance when you’re traveling by public transit. For instance, alert you when it’s time to get off a train or bus.

Essentially, as TechCrunch reports, with a new feature now being worked into Google Maps, you will get step-by-step instructions along your public transit route. Similar to how you do when you navigate while driving or walking. Reportedly, these alerts will appear on your smartphone’s lock screen as well, to minimize the risk of you missing your connections when you’re traveling by bus, train or tram. You can scroll through the steps of your journey and get alerts set up.

Purpose? You can simply add your drop off destination in Google Maps, and doze off for all you want. Just set alert where you wanted to be notified, and the Maps will wake you up. So in case of delays in scheduled arrival time, you don’t have to forcefully stay up. This feature will also be a boon if you are new to a city, where working out a route can be quite a hassle.

Google hasn’t said anything officially about the upcoming update but TechCrunch says the functionality is likely to be rolling out soon to the main app. It looks like this is for Android users first of all, though the same feature might come to iOS too. Sadly, there is no news if and when this feature will come to the app in India.
