Huawei’s latest launch in the Indian market is making all the right kind of noises. The company has packed its mid-range phone with a whole lot of high-end features while still keeping the price under a tight check. Little wonder the phone has been flying off the shelves since its introduction a few days ago.
The first thing about the Honor 7X, it is the only mid-range phone that comes with thin bezels in the front. Yes, the full frontal with minimum side bezels, so far the preserve of the big boys can be yours for under Rs 13,000 with the Honor 7X. Even the top and bottom bezels have been considerably shrunk to give you a big screen in a comfortable body size.
Specifications
The large front screen apart the little phone packs quite a deep punch in every other area as well. The 7X runs on a HiSilicon Kirin 659, the same processor powering the Honor 9i. It is an octa-core chip with four cores clocked at 2.36GHz and the other four clocked at 1.7GHz. The phone has 4GB of RAM and you have a choice of either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. External storage can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card in the hybrid dual-SIM slot.
The screen has full-HD+ resolution with 2.5D curved glass. Viewing angles are good and you can tweak the color temperature. The 7X runs on Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 on top of Android Nougat. The 7X comes with Honor’s support app called HiCare and HiGame, a gaming app store. There are also web shortcuts called Hi Honor and Honor Community.
Camera
The 7X has a 16MP + 2MP sharpshooter at the back and an 8MP selfie camera up front. In terms of picture quality, the cameras impress with color reproduction, even in the limited light. Close-ups look impressive, especially photos in bokeh mode. Landscape shots, when viewed on large screen, look clear and detailed. The 7X has an appreciable wide aperture mode on its camera.
Battery
Another strong point of the phone is its powerful 3340mAh battery. It is good enough to get you through a day of heavy usage. Of course, Honor has included a power-saving mode in case you do happen to run low on juice.
Comparison
To really understand what Honor has managed to do with the 7X it helps to compare it with other phones in the same price bracket, like Xiomi’s Mi-A1.

Not only is the Mi-A1 more expensive it looks outdated compared to the Honor 7X with its smaller 16:9 aspect ratio screen up front. In other areas too like storage, battery, power of the processors, the screen resolution the 7X clearly stands head and shoulders ahead of anything else in the midrange segment.
Conclusion:
The Honor 7X is a top-end phone with a mid-range price. It offers the looks, features and performance of phones that belong to a different category. There is no phone in its category that can match its features, performance or its premium look and feel which comes from its unibody construction.
