Although the OnePlus 5T was launched last month and is the current flagship smartphone in the Chinese company’s line-up, OnePlus hasn’t forgotten about buyers of its previous smartphones. The OnePlus 5, launched in June this year, is slated to receive the stable OTA update for the latest version of Oxygen OS and Android Oreo soon. But in the build-up to that, the company has already rolled out its Open Beta program for the device.
Last month saw the release of the first open beta for the OnePlus 5 based on Android Oreo, and today, the company is pushing the second open beta for the device. At the base, the software has the phone running on Android Oreo 8.0, and has a handful of improvements. However, as an open beta version of the software, it is not as stable as stock software. Installing it on your phone involves the risk of loss of data or instability while using the device, and the software should only be used by advanced users who understand these risks.
The second Open Beta for the OnePlus 5 brings a handful of improvements to the device, including fixes for widget and shortcut issues, improvements to the camera UI, the addition of the f4v video file format and improvements in the speed of deleting large files, improvements for reading mode, vibration settings, Bluetooth audio, and other general bug fixes and improvements. The update also brings the device’s Android security patch to November 2017.
If you’re already on the Open Beta program from the first version, you’ll receive an OTA for Open Beta 2 on your OnePlus 5 soon enough, if you haven’t already. If you aren’t already a part of the program, you can get onto it by manually side-loading it onto your device or installing it via recovery mode. Bear in mind, once you’re on the open beta program, you won’t receive regular stable OTAs until you reset the phone entirely and reload the stock software.
