CES 2018: Sony likely to announce new Xperia smartphones on January 8

Recently there have been quite a few rumors around three new Sony smartphones – Xperia L2, Xperia XA2, and Xperia XA2 Ultra. While rumors previously suggested that the smartphones might launch at MWC 2018, latest reports suggest that we can expect the company to launch the phones a lot sooner.

Sony has confirmed that it would hold a press conference on the January 8 where it will unveil “exclusive news & updates,” which according to most of the reports will be new smartphones. Sony’s press conference starts at 5:00PM PST (6.30AM IST) on January 8.

Reports in the past suggest that the Xperia L2 will feature a 5.5-inch display, and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The handset is believed to be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 630 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM. While the camera resolution is not known yet, the Xperia L2 render is seen sporting a single rear camera. It is also expected to ship with Android Nougat on board.

The Xperia XA2, and XA2 Ultra are said to be powered by the same chipset. However, the Xperia XA2 might come with slightly lower RAM and/or storage. The Xperia XA2 Ultra is rumored to feature a 6-inch display size with 16:9 as its aspect ratio. Whereas, the Xperia XA2 will allegedly feature a 5-inch display. Recently, the smartphone was also leaked with live images revealing dual selfie cameras setup.
