Intex's new Cloud Scan FP is an entry-level smartphone priced at Rs 3,999. Its USP is a fingerprint scanner placed at the back.

Fingerprint scanners are fast becoming a standard feature on affordable Android smartphones. Intex though is setting a trend by including the feature on entry-level smartphones. Earlier this month, the company launched the Aqua S2, which at Rs 4,490 was the cheapest smartphone with a fingerprint scanner. Now, Intex has launched the Cloud Scan FP for Rs 3,999, and yes, it comes with a fingerprint scanner.

The Cloud Scan FP features a polycarbonate body with metallic edges, and a fingerprint scanner placed below the rear camera. The back panel gets a textured look giving it some character, while the front is dominated by the display and capacitive navigation buttons. Though the talking point is surely the fingerprint scanner, the device lacks 4G support which in our opinion is a huge downer. With Reliance Jio in the market, 4G connectivity has become affordable for the masses, and the lack of 4G support could go against Intex’s smartphone. Intex’s new smartphone is available exclusively via Snapdeal, and buyers can choose from champagne and dark blue color variants. At the time of filing this story, Snapdeal is also offering a 20 percent discount for buyers using a Standard Chartered debit or credit card.

Intex Cloud Scan FP specifications

The smartphone sports a 5-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixels) LCD display with 196ppi. It is powered by a 1.2GHz Spreadtrum SC7731C quad-core processor paired with Mali 400 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The device offers 8GB onboard storage, of which around 5GB is free for users. The storage though can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.

In the photography department, the Cloud Scan FP is equipped with a 5-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with f/2.8 aperture,  OV5648 image sensor and LED flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone is backed by a 2,450mAh battery that Intex says is good enough for up to five hours of talktime and up to 110 hours on standby mode.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM (micro+nano) card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, AGPS and FM Radio. On the software front, the device runs on Android Marshmallow and is pre-loaded with apps like Matrabhasha, Dailyhunt, Saavn, OR code, LFTY, Intex service, Fillr, and QTouch among others.

At this price point, the Intex Cloud Scan FP will face competition from the likes of Reliance Digital LYF Flame 1 (Rs 4,199), and the Xolo Era 2 (Rs 4,499) among others. Almost immediately, these smartphones have an advantage over the Cloud Scan FP since they come with 4G and VoLTE support.

The LYF Flame 1 comes with features like 4.5-inch FWVGA display, Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 5-megapixel rear and front cameras, 2,000mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support. There is little differentiating the two smartphones except the 4G support on the LYF smartphone.

The Xolo Era 2, on the other hand, comes with a 5-inch HD display, quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 5-megapixel rear and front cameras, 2,350mAh battery and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE support. Apart from the 4G support, the Era 2 also has the advantage of flaunting an HD display.
