The dual-edge curved display on the Mi Note 2 has been confirmed. Xiaomi is hosting the launch event on October 25.

It’s no secret that Xiaomi is planning on unveiling the Mi Note 2 next week on October 25. We already have a fair idea on what to expect from the phablet courtesy of numerous rumors and leaks. With a couple of days to the launch, at least one of the rumored features has been confirmed by none other than Xiaomi itself.

Xiaomi India’s Twitter account posted a tweet, which is all the confirmation you need that the upcoming Mi Note 2 will flaunt a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge-like dual-edge curved display. The tweet reads, “Curved to impress – Wanna be first to know about our #MiNote2 launch on Oct. 25? Join our FB event now.” The image attached with the tweet confirms that the launch event will take place on October 25 at 11:30AM IST, and also has the tagline — “Curved to impress. Mi Note 2. Two-sided dual curves.”

The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 was recently spotted on a Chinese retailer’s website that reveals almost everything there is to possibly know about the upcoming phablet. The photo shows a very Galaxy S7 edge-like design with the display curving on the sides till it reaches the back panel. At the moment though, there is no word on how Xiaomi is planning to make use of the extra display real estate on both the sides. Samsung uses this space for app shortcuts, and quick notifications.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 specifications

Based on what we have come across so far, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is expected to feature a 5.7-inch display with QHD (2560×1440 pixels) resolution, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor, and either 4GB of 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The device is expected to be available in three storage variants —  64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

Besides the curved display, another talking point of the Mi Note 2 is expected to be the dual-camera setup at the back that includes a pair of 16-megapixel snappers with Sony sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS) support. Like the Mi 5s Plus, Xiaomi is again likely to leverage Qualcomm’s ClearSight technology that lets users capture crisp photos with less noise, even in low-light conditions. For selfie lovers, the device could come with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

Rumors have also suggested that the Mi Note 2 will boast a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, and a fingerprint scanner. Details are however sketchy when it comes to the placement of the scanner. While some leaks suggest a physical button up front, others hint at a Qualcomm Sense ID ultrasonic fingerprint scanner placed below the front glass.

Connectivity options expected are dual-SIM card slots, 4G with VoLTE HD voice calling support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC and GPS. On the software front, the phablet could run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8. ALSO READ: Xiaomi MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat spotted in a leaked screenshot

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 price

One of the reports hinted that the Mi Note 2 will be priced at RMB 5,699, which is approximately Rs 56,453. This would place it in a segment where you find the Apple iPhone 7 and Google’s new Pixel smartphones, essentially making it the most expensive device in Xiaomi’s current portfolio. This is however expected to be the price of the top-end variant, and prices for the base model could start from $499 (Rs 33,400 approximately).

Xiaomi’s Mi Note 2 launch event kicks off on Tuesday at 11:30AM IST, and we will bring you all the announcements in real-time. So stay tuned!
