The Moto M could be the first Moto smartphone with a fingerprint scanner embedded on the back.
Lenovo-backed Motorola’s upcoming smartphone, the Moto M has been doing rounds on the rumor mill almost every day now. The Moto M is reportedly going to be launched on November 8 along with the Lenovo P2 which was showcased at this year’s IFA. The launch is expected to take place at an event in Guangzhou, China. The Moto M was recently spotted on benchmarking website AnTuTu which revealed some of its key specifications and features. Its leaked images also show the Moto M sporting a full-metal unibody design along with a curved back. New hands-on images of the Moto M have been leaked online which are at par with the previous leaks.
The images have been tweeted by leakster Steve Hemmerstoffer, and they are hands-on images which look convincing enough. As mentioned before, the Moto M is seen in gold color sporting a full-metal unibody design. On the front side, there is no home button and the smartphone instead comes with on-screen navigation buttons. At the back, there is the camera lens, the Moto logo, antenna bands running along the top and bottom, and a fingerprint scanner. If the image is to be believed, then the Moto M will be the first Moto smartphone to feature a fingerprint scanner at the back. On the right side of the smartphone, the volume rocker and the power button are located. Down below, the USB port and speaker grille are visible.
Along with the leaked images, its specifications have also been mentioned. According to the leakster, the Moto M is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, MediaTek Helio P15 chipset clocked at 2.2GHz, 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. For photography, the Moto M is expected to sport a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. For power, the smartphone is revealed to use a 3,050mAh battery.
The specifications of the Moto M that have been rumored on different occasions are contradicting each other. The AnTuTu listing had revealed that the Moto M will have MediaTek’s Helio P10 octa-core processor under its hood. It further revealed that the smartphone’s 5.5-inch full HD display will come with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The Android OS revealed for the Moto M was Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Going back to another leak, it claimed that the smartphone will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2.0GHz and paired with Adreno 506 GPU under its hood. It also suggested two variants of the smartphone in terms of RAM and storage. The Moto M with 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage is expected to be China exclusive, while the Moto M with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage would be for markets outside China. In addition to that, this leak also suggested that the Moto M will be powered by a massive 5,100mAh battery which is highly contrary to the latest leaks. It also revealed connectivity options for the smartphone which include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE with VoLTE support and GPS. Moving ahead, there was another report which suggested that along with the Moto M, a larger variant of the smartphone called the Moto M Plus would be launched. The Moto M Plus is expected to come with a 6-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 SoC, and a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button up front. The Moto M Plus is expected to come with 4G LTE support and for power, it could feature a 3,000mAh battery.
Seeing how these leaks and rumors contradict each other on some levels, it is best that the latest information be taken with a grain of salt. Although the Moto M’s launch is expected on November 8, which is just six days away, the information is still dicey since Lenovo has not released anything officially as yet.
